Imagine1Day International Organization (Imagine1Day) is a Canadian non-religious and non-profit humanitarian and development NGO. Since 2008, Imagine1Day has been actively investing in Ethiopia, focusing on Education, Child Protection, Gender Based Violence, MHPSS, WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene), Livelihood, Emergency Responses, Leadership, and Opportunity Development pillars. The organization's ultimate goal is to ensure that all Ethiopians have access to quality education without relying on foreign aid by the year 2030. In collaboration with UNICEF, Imagine1Day is currently in the planning phase to implement an integrated Education and Child Protection project in the Afar region. To support this initiative, Imagine1Day is seeking qualified experts for the following position.
Position Summary
Under the supervision of the Protection Specialist, the CP/GBV Mental Health and Psychosocial (MHPSS) Officer will be responsible for supervising and coordinating MHPSS services to children, GBV survivor’s as well as for facilitating trainings and coaching on MHPSS concepts to others. The MHPSS Officer will be responsible for providing a limited number of direct MHPSS services to children, GBV survivor’s and families, like PFA and basic counseling including referrals. The MHPSS Officer will be a psychologist/sociologist by profession and have experience in protection work with a specialization in working with children, girls, women and caregivers mainly in emergency crisis setting. This role involves effectively managing and reporting on the projects in line with the objectives, timeframe, and budget. Other important aspects of the role include managing, training local staff and parasocial workers to meet international quality standards in mental health care delivery, encouraging beneficiary participation, liaising with other stakeholders, and anticipating, planning, and contributing to the development of MHPSS components for new GBV and protection project proposals and reports. They collaborate with the Protection Specialist to contribute to program strategy, external representation, and coordination with project partners. The primary objective of this role is to coordinate the implementation of the MHPSS activities through integration into EiE, CP and GBV programming (EiE) project, ensuring the timely and high-quality MHPSS service provision. The Program Coordinator will oversee program activities, ensuring the effectiveness, efficiency, and quality of work conducted by I1D. He/she will facilitate coordination with partners, conduct field visits, and make necessary adjustments in consultation with the program manager. Close collaboration with local partners is also a key aspect of this role.

1. Work for Overall organizational development

Organize experiences that can help as basis for project proposals in education sector
Take appropriate, coordinated, and consistent actions to handle situations of personal risks and risks for others.
2. Project Implementation
Work with men, women, boys and girls, community members and other duty bearers to ensure they are actively engaged to protect women and children from protection risks.
Receive referrals from the I1d’s CP/GBV Case Management team, partners, and other relevant stakeholders
- Assess clients’ needs and provide PFA, focused MHPSS, and group counseling, as needed, refer children and GBV survivors to additional services (e.g., specialized MHPSS services,
Submit quality reports as scheduled including but not limited to weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual reports.
Document project success stories on a monthly basis for sharing with the support office and donors during the monthly update meetings.
Support the project staff so that they comply with all relevant Imagine 1 Day policies and procedures regarding child protection and child safeguarding for the maximum protection of children.
Implement the project interventions and apply the knowledge in a way to Do Not Harm
Ensure that activities are appropriately planned and that delays and constraints are documented
3. Capacity development:
Provide targeted trainings on MHPSS concepts, approaches and interventions for CP, GBV Case Workers and teachers to support the holistic MHPSS needs of
Provide ongoing technical coaching and capacity building on MHPSS for CP/GBV Case Workers,
Upon request and when appropriate, provide targeted training and ongoing coaching and capacity building to external actors and other key stakeholders working in CP/GBV Case Management on key MHPSS concepts (e.g., supporting and referring high-risk cases, supporting children in distress, appropriate MHPSS interventions for children based on their age/developmental stage etc.)
4. Partnership Development:
Maintain and strengthen existing networks through other service providers at local level, to ensure that children and survivors receive quality services and support both at the agency levels.
Strengthen existing referral systems and identify new networks to work with to ensure holistic support to the clients.
Ensure active and close collaboration and coordination with all programme teams and beyond
Actively take part in relevant coordination meetings at the local and zonal level
Actively develop and maintain effective working relationships with relevant local actors in the field, including community, non-governmental and governmental actors
Promote for the goodwill of Imagine 1Day guided by our core values, culture and leadership
Engage and take responsibility of mobilizing concerned participants for project joint monitoring and evaluation as per of the implementation plan
Participate in safety audit programs, and do for further quality project implementation as per of the feedbacks
Participate in different project related consultative workshops and review meetings.
Invests time and energy to actively develop self and others to help realize their full potential, and to build the organization’s capability for the future.
Act as primary focal point for the partner, ensuring that all partner activities are supported, implemented and monitored effectively to achieve the project goals
5. Financial and Supply management
Ensure timely implementation of budgeted activities in addition to budget tracking and control.
Plan and follow up the distribution of NFIs and cash transfer in line with selection criteria.
Coordinate with Logistics to ensure timely and safe delivery of supplies allocated to field activities.
6. Participate in Human Resource Management Activities
Participate in recruiting of social workers, community volunteers and facilitators
Assure the implementation of Imagine 1Day’s policy and work discipline of every staff that comprises child safe guarding and child protection code of conduct policy, harassment policy, PSEA policy, criminal background check policy, crises management and incidence procedure policy, and others
Provide leadership and support to ensure staff well-being,
Organize for internal peer to peer capacity building forums on MHPSS
Create a good team spirit, with appropriate provision for having successor.
7. Monitoring and Evaluation
Monitoring the project interventions on regular basis and find out the gaps sharing the gaps with the staff and make a proper action plan.
Ensure that project is on track in sense of indicators and immediate outcomes.
Identify best practices and needs of development, and find out a corrective measure for better improvement on the gaps
Lead on all reporting related to CP MHPSS activities
Prepare and submit weekly activity work plans and reports in a timely manner to agreed-upon deadlines
Contribute to monthly CP/GBV reports, complete all relevant tools for activities conducted (e.g., indicator trackers for MHPSS activities).
File and archive all important documents and correspondence relating to MHPSS activities
Support the implementation of and compliance with work plans, spending plans and M&E plans
As requested, support CP staff by building their capacity to collect MHPSS M&E data and contribute to the collection of M&E data to support the development of project proposals
Support document success/human interest stories in collaboration with the communication team.
Conduct comprehensive report and documentation of lessons learnt and best practices to achieve project goals and activities
Assist with any other related activities as deemed necessary by the supervisor.
8. Reporting and communication
Report project baseline and end line assessment results based on the donors and partner’s requirements.
Report 5Wmatrix, weekly situational reports, narrative reports on monthly, quarterly, biannual and annual basis as per donors and partner’s requirements.
Analyze implementation challenges and report any inconsistencies and/or gaps to inform adjustments to plans and implementation schedules.
Monitor and report on results of capacity building efforts.
BA Degree in Psychology, Social work, mental health, sociology with minimum of 2 years’ experience in protection work, specialized in working with children and caregivers
Minimum of 2 years’ experience providing MHPSS services directly to clients and caregivers
Experience in implementing child protection MHPSS programming in humanitarian or development settings
Experience working with children, girls and women who have been at-risk of being harmed, particularly children at high-risk
Experience in organizing and facilitating trainings
Positive and professional attitude, including ability to lead and work well in a team setting
Ability to keep records and write simple and basic reports of activities
Comfortable speaking about sensitive topics in an honest, professional, and thoughtful manner
Demonstrated understanding of and ability to maintain confidentiality and respect for clients/beneficiaries
High degree of flexibility and strong ability to organize work, meet deadlines, maintain composure, prioritize work under pressure, coordinate multiple tasks and maintain attention to detail
Computer literate, including Microsoft Word and Excel
Experience in reporting to donors in an NGO environment
Excellent computer knowledge of MS-Word, MS-excel, PowerPoint, etc.
Excellent communication skill in Local Language and English
