JSI has historically managed a large portfolio of projects focusing on the quality, and equity in access of, RMNCAH services, primary health care (PHC) including community health program, digital health, health information systems (HIS), supply chain management, public health emergency responses, and social and behavior change.
Activity Overview
JSI seeks an experienced Health System Strengthening Advisor for United States Agency for International Development (USAID) funded Lowland Health Activity. The purpose of the Activity is to improve health and nutrition outcomes in the pastoral geographies of Ethiopia, through increased access and utilization of quality reproductive, maternal, newborn, child, and adolescent & youth health and nutrition (RMNCAH-N) services.
Position Summary
The Nutrition Advisor is responsible for all activities related to Adolescent, Maternal and Child Nutrition within Lowland Health Activity intervention areas. S/he is also responsible in developing and adapting training guides, job aids and tools, developing implementation approaches of nutrition interventions and liaising the LHA project with the FMOH of Ethiopia and other implementing partners in the country. He/she is also responsible to collaborate with other actors including the public sector to avert the nutrition situation in the country and work closely with the public and Lowland Health Activity field staff to improve the nutrition situation.
Work with Service Delivery Team Lead and other Activity members to meet key milestones and deliverables, monitor, analyze, and troubleshoot any challenges to the Activity’s Nutrition related implementations.
Conduct need-based basic and refresher training on nutrition activities, focusing on maternal, infant, and young child nutrition, as well as counseling skills.
Support nutrition-related services through a differentiated service model, integrating outreach and Mobile Health and Nutrition Teams.
Build the capacity of community volunteers for nutritional screening and supplementation, with a special emphasis on hard-to-reach areas.
Collaborate with health facilities to contextualize and pilot differentiated service delivery models.
Develop/adapt training manuals in collaboration with regional program office teams for capacity building of local health providers and their managers in nutrition interventions and service delivery.
Lead on the development of tools for Activity staff and local partners to improve the quality of Nutrition activities.
Provide technical support to regional teams in the organization and facilitation, monitoring and evaluation of nutrition interventions.
Contribute to strengthening the use of HMIS and ensure strong use of data at primary health care unit level
Liaise with the Ministry of Health Nutrition Coordination Office and with other child health partners involved in nutrition.
Contribute to the development of annual work plans and annual, quarterly and monthly reports.
Provide need based appropriate technical support to regions on activities to be rolled out linked to Emergency Nutrition response;
Work with MEL team to identify research topics and conduct implementation/operation research.
Actively engaged regular meetings and able to come up with innovative solutions to improve programming at LHA.
Accomplish any other roles and responsibilities
Master’s degree in nutrition or public health and with more than 7 years of professional experience.
Experience in doing different nutrition related researches
Experience in working with NGOs and/or international organizations
Experience in public health interventions (ability to work at community level with the field staff)
Familiarity with Nutrition service delivery and the health context in pastoral geographies
Experience in developing training guide/manuals and tools.
Strong team work and mentoring skills.
Computer literacy (MS-word, excel, power point, internet) required.
Strong understanding of cultural sensitivity in health service delivery
Excellent interpersonal communication and strong personal integrity.
Extensive experience in leading nutrition programs at the national level in Ethiopia
Strong data management and presentation skills are required.
