Job Description

• Facilitate enabling environment for Gender Equitable and Healthy Behaviours including:

o   Design local innovative approaches to address long standing harmful practices, gender stereotypes that hinder healthy behaviours such as child, early and forced marriage and FGM;

o   Support Improved capacities in the field office to ensure gender equality through gender transformation interventions, drawing upon a range of Consortium partners as necessary to carry out activities.

o   Support in all process of conducting the project’s Gender, Youth, and Social Inclusion Analysis, in alignment with the project’s overall formative research plans and follow up actions.

o Provide technical contributions in the assigned project implementation areas social and behaviour change (SBC) strategies and capacity strengthening activities with government, and local implementing partners related to gender and social inclusion, SGBV, human rights, accountability and good governance (with a focus on equitable and quality health services)

Disseminates learning and ensures all staff at the field office 

o level are updated on gender equitable, youth inclusion and healthy behaviour.

·  Implement ActionAid best practices and approaches related to the above areas to:

o Implement project activities based on the project's SBC strategies.

o Assist in the development of advocacy and engagement materials, media, and other tools.

o   Incorporate gender responsive health and other services.

o   Support in the development of the project's gender and social inclusion strategy and related assessments that include understanding of gender dynamics in emergency settings or during health shocks.

o   Provides ongoing backstopping and technical support to staff.

Perform other related activities

·   Support in the development of processes, monitoring tools and delivery of the project on gender equity and healthy behavior to support high programme quality.

·   Lead in the development/adoption and implementation of checklists to each activity to ensure inclusion of Gender and Youth

In collaboration with other relevant staff ensures integration of Women Right interventions across the project priority areas

·   Assist in facilitating regional and local level partnership processes with relevant institutions

·   Identify gaps and provides necessary solutions in the areas of speciality; provide/facilitate relevant capacity building as deemed necessary.

· Conduct mapping and assessment of partners’ and stakeholder’s capacity using feminist intersectional analysis to identify gaps and strength.

· Work with the relevant government structures to facilitate Gender and Youth related activities and monitoring in the operational areas towards healthy behaviours contribution

Work closely with all consortium staffs in the regional office and provide continuous technical support and ensure the proper implementation of Gender, Youth and healthy behaviour interventions by the partners 

·  Participate in the periodic monitoring of the project applying the project’s RF, ActionAid’s program quality measurements and recommendations of the Formative research and GESI Analysis

·  Engage on respective priority area evaluations/reviews.

Document and share lessons/ results of gender and youth activities and strategies in the operation areas 

·  Participate and contribute on regular planning and budgeting and reporting of the project.

·  Manage the project budget for the assigned project area.

Job Requirements

BA Degree in Social Science, Gender Studies, Family Science, Rural and Urban Development Studies, OR other related disciplines with health-related background

  • 3-5 years of work experience on gender or social and behavioural change,

  • At least 2 years of proven experience in gender analysis/Audit, training, and mainstreaming.

  • Good understanding of the context of women, girls and youth issues under Ethiopia social, political, economic and cultural context  

  • Experience and commitment to align & work with people living in poverty and particularly women and marginalised/excluded groups

  • Experience in social inclusion and youth programming approaches and strategies.

  • A good knowledge of HRBA programming and Feminist approaches

  • Experience in developing and application of gender analysis tools.

Understanding of national Gender and Women’s policy environment and local and national gender issues.

Desirable knowledge and Experience

  • Gender related work in an NGO setting.

  • Previous experience with Social and Behavioral and health related programs
