Summary

The Country Director for AGCI Ethiopia holds a central leadership role within the organization, overseeing the collaborative execution of all responsibilities in close partnership with AGCI Headquarters. This position is instrumental in setting strategic goals, managing daily operations, and ensuring the alignment of AGCI Ethiopia's efforts with the broader mission and objectives of AGCI. The following is a concise summary of the key responsibilities, qualifications, and attributes required for the role of Country Director for AGCI Ethiopia.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Programming:

  • Crafts and articulates a compelling vision and strategic plan for AGCI Ethiopia, aligning it with the mission and vision of AGCI Headquarters, and effectively communicating this vision to guide the organization.

  • Facilitates seamless communication with AGCI Headquarters, ensuring timely and accurate provision of essential information to support informed decision-making on AGCI Ethiopia's activities.

  • Formulates program strategies, operational plans, metrics, and protocols to achieve AGCI Ethiopia's objectives while upholding AGCI's global standards in child protection and service excellence.

  • Establishes alignment with diverse stakeholders, both domestically and internationally, fostering a collaborative environment conducive to realizing AGCI Ethiopia's desired goals and objectives.

  • Demonstrates exceptional leadership, innovation, confidence, resilience, humility, and the willingness to express dissenting views when necessary to further AGCI Ethiopia's mission.

  • Cultivates and nurtures relationships with donors, churches, partners, and agencies, and effectively represents AGCI within community constituencies, special events, seminars, professional organizations and government agencies.

  • Offers direct assistance and support as required for children, families, caregivers, and community leaders participating in AGCI's programs. This includes addressing child advocacy matters and conducting ethical and comprehensive needs assessments for institutions, children, families, or caregivers.

Operational:

  • Oversees and maintains training and case management software platforms, meticulously logging telephone communications, inputting new data, executing queries, and generating necessary reports and summaries as required.

  • Develops and oversees policies and procedures that uphold AGCI Ethiopia's mission and vision, ensuring compliance with all relevant legal and regulatory requirements.

  • Compiles and maintains essential records and reports, including budgets, training manuals, and operational documentation, to support AGCI Ethiopia's operation

  • Develops and oversees the operational budget for AGCI Ethiopia, collaborating with AGCI Headquarters on program resource allocation and management.

  • Conducts weekly meetings with AGCI Headquarters to discuss tasks, activities, progress towards organizational objectives, and address any pressing needs.

  • Leads the preparation of responses to regulatory claims and, when necessary, represents the organization at hearings; promptly addresses concerns or complaints from program participants.

  • Provides guidance to AGCI Ethiopia leadership in the employee selection, review, evaluation, and termination processes; collaboratively approves hiring, termination, and promotional decisions with AGCI headquarters and conducts regular staff meetings.

  • Assumes overall responsibility for all domestic business operations of AGCI Ethiopia, including the management and allocation of financial resources and adherence to Human Resource policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.

  • Ensures meticulous maintenance of all organization and program participant records, ensuring strict compliance with policies, procedures, laws, and regulatory standards, while upholding confidentiality and data control and release protocols for organizational information.

Sustainability:

  • Collaborates closely with the AGCI advancement team to showcase the tangible impact of AGCI's initiatives in Ethiopia.

  • Initiates and sustains relationships with domestic and international personnel, partners, organizations, communities, institutions, and government offices, fostering the expansion of AGCI Ethiopia's impact.

  • Addresses both internal and external audiences, articulating and advocating for AGCI's Child Advocacy Model in Ethiopia, effectively communicating its significance and benefits.

  • Plays an active role in supporting various fundraising endeavors aimed at advancing AGCI Ethiopia's mission and projects.

General:

  • May travel 30% or more internationally or domestically across Ethiopia.

  • Displays excellent communication skills including writing, presentation, and listening abilities; displays excellent ability to remain calm and courteous under pressure.

  • Respectfully takes direction from AGCI Headquarters.

  • Maintains punctual, regular and predictable attendance; maintains consistent presence across AGCI program sites

  • Has the ability to work evenings and weekends, as required.

  • Leads, attends, and participates in staff meetings and trainings as required.

  • Works collaboratively in a trust based and relational team environment with a spirit of cooperation and remains open to all levels of work and support for the organization.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Directly manages AGCI Ethiopia directors and independent contributors, along with indirect management over all employees within the organization. Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of AGCI Ethiopia employees. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience

Master's Degree, plus ten or more years related experience in social services, psychology, non-profit management, public health or related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Must also be a TBRI® Practitioner or be willing to become a TBRI® Practitioner within 12 months of securing employment with AGCI.

Language Skills

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business correspondence, reports and inquiries in English and Amharic. Ability to write error-free business correspondence, reports and presentation materials in English and Amharic. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from supervisors, donors/sponsors, clients, vendors, organization partners, and the general public in English or Amharic.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Calculates currency conversion, discounts and interest, when needed.

Computer Skills

Job requires advanced basic computer skills including logging on to systems, word processing, spreadsheet, report writing, project management, presentation creation/editing, database, use of internet and communication by e-mail. Requires knowledge of, and use of, DonorPerfect fundraising database/software program and Apricot case management software.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to work with and protect extremely confidential files and information and have the appropriate discernment regarding handling issues of varying complexity and sensitivity. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions and can deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables. Has the discretion to weigh the levity of an issue and pass along to the appropriate party/leader within the organization, as needed.
