IOCC began its work in Ethiopia in 2003, partnering closely with the Ethiopian Orthodox Church Development and Inter-church Aid Commission (EOC-DICAC). In its 20 years operating in Ethiopia, IOCC has worked in cooperation with EOC-DICAC, international and local NGOs, and various ministries, including the ministries of Health, Education, and Agriculture, and provided humanitarian and development assistance to communities throughout the country.
Project Description/Position overview
The primary purpose of the MHNT Medical officer is to lead and be in charge of technical quality implementation and delivery of clinical services at the assigned MHNT catchment area. She/he will mainly be responsible for the day-to-day clinical service implementation and provide adult consultation for acute and life-threatening illnesses, safe motherhood, and child health consultations. In addition, the position holder is also expected to provide supervision, technical assistance, and capacity building to health workers (MHNT) in the catchment health facilities. She/he will also be responsible for the day-to-day documentation of children and adults treated.
Improve basic preventive health care at community level in line with public health emergency management with emphasis in health especially commonly occurring epidemic diseases under surveillance.
Treat acute and life-threatening illnesses as per the standard primary health care protocol.
Provide safe motherhood and child health consultations.
Provide supervision, technical assistance, and capacity building for health extension workers.
Support integrated mobile health service modality, daily dispensary, and drug supply management.
Document the day-to-day service provision.
Strengthen early referrals mechanisms.
Compile weekly and monthly reports and share with emergency health and nutrition project coordinator.
Strengthen linkages and coordination mechanisms between community, health facilities and the Woreda health office.
Work at temporary adult outpatient department (OPD) and manage all communicable and non-communicable disease cases.
Train and support community-based volunteer health workers for the implementation of the community component of the project
Conduct the planning and promotion of awareness creation on nutrition and preventative health care in the community.
Perform other duties as required or assigned.

Qualifications:
Education: B. Sc. Degree in Public Health or Nursing/ Medical Doctor / General practitioner (GP).
Experience: A minimum of two years clinical experience working in health facilities (i.e. health center and hospital), outpatient department managing patients and other health program implementation, and experience in training of health care providers.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSA): Good written and spoken communication skills in the local language (Amharic) and English. Extremely flexible, able to work independently, and can cope with stressful situations. Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills. Ability and willingness to work in remote and potentially insecure environments.
Competencies: Ability to work in a team; sensitivity to cultural conditions and practices; tenacity in observing procedures, regulations, and other requirements in implementing and maintaining IOCC programs; and make appropriate recommendations.
