Safeguarding Coordinator at Save the Children
Position: Safeguarding Coordinator
Deadline: February, 20/2024
Role Purpose
Under the direct supervision of the area office HR & Safeguarding Manager, the post holder is expected to meet the safeguarding standard practices in the Area Office.
She/he will be responsible for assisting projects/programs/ and field offices to ensure compliance are met through community awareness, capacity-building training, conducting project risk assessment and facilitating the development of friendly materials. She/he will also be responsible for assisting in implementing safe program activities, establishing local reporting procedures, reporting, data management and sharing learnings.
This role demands roving support for project offices at different locations under the field office for both humanitarian and development programs.
SCOPE OF ROLE:
Reports to: AO- HR & Safeguarding Manager
Dimensions: Save the Children works in all regions of Ethiopia with a current staff complement of approximately 1900 and a current expenditure of approximately $190090+ million each year.

SAFEGUARDING
Organizing and facilitating safeguarding (Child, Adult and Harassment) awareness for functions, project staff, partners, volunteers, project participants and other representatives (consultants, construction team, rental derivers, vendors) for both humanitarian response and development programs.
Facilitate/ coordinate safeguarding induction for new joiners with a significant focus of the humanitarian response team and conduct ongoing refreshment training for staff, partner’s focal points on child safeguarding and PSEA.
Ensure all projects are risk assessed, develop mitigation strategies, and record, monitor, and update the tracker on a regular basis in collaboration with program managers and focal points at the field level.
Identify project-level contact person for project participants and ensure local safeguarding reporting procedure is updated and displayed in project implementation areas.
Ensure the safeguarding concept and reporting procedure is well understood by project participants, staff, volunteers, partners, and representatives and ensure safeguarding messages are displayed in local language at project level.
Conduct a periodical assessment/survey on understanding and practice of safeguarding by project participants, staff, volunteers, partners and representatives and the effectiveness of existing reporting procedures.
Follow up on the volunteer recruitment process of projects and ensure the proper documentation are kept in the data base/record in collaboration with HR and project manager.
Conduct focus group discussions with children and adult project participants on safe programing and effective reporting procedures in collaboration with MEAL colleagues.
Report safeguarding incidents in DATIX system timely and coordinate with the national safeguarding team for the follow up, preliminary data collection, participation on investigation as relevant, coordinate referral mechanism as relevant.
Assess the child participation events, make sure the procedures are followed in collaboration with event organizer.
Compile and submit monthly report and plan on safeguarding activities to safeguarding manager at country office.
Support local partners on training, risk assessment and other technical support as identified by the partner assessment, COSA.
Facilitate IEC materials translation into local languages, printing, editing and disseminate messages for various groups and monitoring the understanding.
Facilitate the AO self-assessment process and follow the update status from all AO functional leads.
Mapping of service providers at project areas to ensure reported cases are referred to relevant stakeholders and updated periodically as relevant.
Participate in the kickoff meetings, and other relevant workshops/trainings facilitated at the field office and represent safeguarding appropriately this includes regional PSEA network as available.
Participate in proposal development on safeguarding aspects whenever demands.
Organize a learning forum based on the identified risks, challenges, and best practices.
Attend in-house safeguarding and other relevant online and face-to-face training, webinars, meetings, and workshops and put other relevant training/mentoring/coaching demands on the development plan as appropriate.
Take additional assignments when the demand arises by the supervisor including external representation.
Other assignments are provided by line managers.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Minimum of Bachelor's Degree in social sciences and three years of proven experience in child protection, education, and social work. child safeguarding, gender and other related field.
Experience in facilitation and coordination of training and workshops
Experience in conducting assessments, monitoring and report writing
Practical experience on child participation in the intervention of program activities.
Strong computer skills, including the use of email, the Internet and Microsoft Office
Fluency in written and spoken English
Desirable
Experience in child safeguarding and PSEA
Experience in gender mainstreaming, GBV case management
Experience in humanitarian response programs
Skill in illustration design and publication
Good understanding of national laws and procedures
Speaking and writing in the local language
