Duty station –Development Expertise Center; Jimma Area office /Cluster

 DEC is a local CSO established in 2007 and re-registered in May 2019 as per the new Authority for CSO Proclamation by the Ethiopian government bearing a registration number of 0009. The organization has five major programs; Child Well-being and Education Development Program, Gender and Life Skill Development, Employable Skills Development Program, Advocacy, and Humanitarian Emergency Program. DEC actively works in six National Regional States and one city administration of Ethiopia namely Amhara, Afar, Oromia, Tigray, Gambela, Benishangul Gumuz, and Addis Ababa City Administration.  

 DEC would like to recruit for the following positions: Advocacy, Mobilization, and SBC Officer

 Duty Station Jimma Area Office / Jimma Cluster/

 Academic Qualification & Experience

Bachelors/Master’s degree in law, Human Rights, Social science, or related field from a recognized university; or other relevant professional qualifications with 3 years CSO experience.

 Job Summary;

Responsible for facilitating the process and implementation of youth-led advocacy, meaningful youth engagement in youth mobilization, and social behavioral change in the Integrated Youth Activity IYA project.  S/he will be responsible for working with young people, partners, and stakeholders to instill the practice of meaningful youth engagement and participation in IYA’s mobilization work and provide support to build the capacity of youth on youth-led advocacy.

Roles and responsibilities 

  • Coordinate and Identify advocacy topics with youth coalition leaders and task force committees set lobby and advocacy agendas and coach and mentor the team to address their issue to responsible government structure

  • Organizes publicity, youth-led advocacy, knowledge-sharing events, and promotional opportunities and facilitates the provision of logistics support to the events;

  • Review reference materials and maintain information database and photo as well as audio libraries;

  • Liaise with media outlets to ensure that the appropriate information and messages are reaching the target groups and the public at large;

  • Develop and implement strategies to increase and improve public outreach;

  • Prepare promotional materials for the project including pamphlets, videos, etc.;

  • Prepare communications reports for the project management team and donor;

  • Coordinate and guide the development and implementation of plans for monitoring meaningful youth engagement at different partners and stakeholder organizations;

  • Support in managing close relationships with relevant local and national stakeholders to advance cooperation and collaboration.

  • Support the identification and assistance of capacity-building needs of both governmental and national CSOs on youth-led advocacy and meaningful youth engagement and participation.

Job Requirements

Additional Skill

  • Fluent in English languages, Writing, and speaking skills in additional local languages are a plus.

  • Good communication skills in teamwork team mobilizations and partnership management;

  • Experience in facilitating assessments, best practice capturing, and working with communities

  • Ability to conduct training and track progress;

  • Ability to sell the vision of IYA to relevant bodies;

  • Innovative, enthusiastic, and a strong team player

  • Good report writing, use of technology application skills

  • Advanced PC skills, particularly knowledge of MS Word and MS Excel as well as other financial software packages.
