Job Description

Director, Financial Accounting handle all the matters in reference to the finance and investments of a company. They manage financial operations of companies such as the assets, liabilities, equity and cash flow aiming to maintain the financial health of the company and operative viability. Financial managers evaluate the strategic plans of the company in financial terms, maintain transparent financial operations for taxation and auditing bodies, and create the financial statements of the company at the end of the fiscal year.

Job Requirement

Qualification & Experience

  • BA /Master’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Financial Management, Business Administration or related field with Ten/Eight (10/8) years of relevant work experience of which three (3) years should be in a Managerial position.

  • Full professional qualification is desirable.

  • Specialist experience in financial accounting and banking sector.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop functional strategy and ensure its implementation;

  • Develop, update and implement directorate policy, procedure, guideline, and control in line with laws and regulations applicable to the Bank’s business environment and risk profile, and ensure such documents are communicated to all concerned staff;

  • Prepare directorate annual plan /budget along with initiatives and monitor its execution;

  • Provide the concerned organ with timely, relevant, accurate, and complete performance reports (operational, financial and action plan/initiatives)

  • Adhere to internal control system and risk management program of the Bank; ensure that risks are identified, assessed and mitigated within her/his domain;

  • Implement timely corrective action on deficiencies and issues that have been raised or reported by the National Bank of Ethiopia, external and internal auditors, risk and/or compliance managers and other pertinent organs within her/his domain;

  • Cultivate working environment that celebrates success, and promotes teamwork, collaboration, and transparency among work units;

  • Coach and mentor employees within the Directorate towards effective career development.

  • Evaluate the periodic performance of his/her subordinates.

  • Demonstrate the Bank’s code of conduct, ascertain that subordinates abide by same and manage disciplinary concerns of the Directorate staff.

  • Represent the Bank in external relationships related with the Directorate.

  • Take part in the Bank’s decision making process by forming part of different panel/committee(s).

  • Handle additional assignment as directed by immediate supervisor.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the maintenance of accurate and up-to-date financial records of the Bank in terms of quality and timeliness of financial reports;

  • Monitor that payments are made in accordance with acceptable procedures and for authorized transactions and approve as appropriate;

  • Monitor and coordinate the timely reconciliation of accounts and settlement of payments and outstanding items;

  • Review, approve and submit consolidated financial statements and other related reports to all concerned stakeholders in a timely manner as per applicable accounting and reporting standards;

  • Approve and monitor the payment of all taxes and pension obligations to the appropriate offices on time;

  • Co-sign on payment instruments and accounts such as payment and settlement, reserve and issue account with National Bank of Ethiopia;

  • Correspond with other banks to settle outstanding items related to Cheque Clearance and Account Transfer System transaction;

  • Ensure that proper aging analysis for suspense accounts is conducted and adequate provision is set aside;

  • Authorize the periodic closing of books of accounts of the Bank and facilitate internal and external audits.

  • Review and authorize the opening , modification, and closure of accounts;

  • Liaise with external auditors regarding the disclosure of true and fair financial reports.

Required Skill

  • Outstanding interpersonal skill and Analytical abilities to maintain financial analysis and financial management.

  • Certificate/Training in the area of IFRS and related areas.

  • Knowledge of standard practices with regard to Corporate Finance to ensure compliance with financial reporting requirements.

  • Proficiency in tax rules and regulations
