Job Description

Ela Biri SACCOs Union is a financial Cooperative society PLC established in 2024. The Union establishment is materialized with the generous financial support from Menschen für Menschen Switzerland through EWNRA to enhance primary Saving and Credit Cooperatives institutional and financial service sustainability. The Union operates in West Guji Zone of Oromia Regional State. To achieve its objectives, the Union is looking for competent and well experienced applicants to fill the following vacant posts.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide an overall leadership to SACCO Union in grassroots implementation of Cooperative principles, policies and procedures in alignment with regional contexts, members’ development and relations, coordinating and organizing efficient and effective management of cooperative resources and networking with pertinent stakeholders. Accountable and reporting to the Union management committee chairperson, the Manager will responsible to undertake the following activities:

  • Manage the day-to-day activities of the Cooperative Societies with accountability

  • Prepare Annual physical and financial plan and submit to the Union management committee, implement when it is approved

  •  Oversee training and information dissemination for primary SACCOs to ensure that members Cooperatives understand loan utilization and management

  • Ensure proper scrutiny and preparation of loan application and agreements and repayment schedules

  • Check accuracy of interest calculation on loans and act upon discrepancies discovered

  • Check the loan agreement approved by chairperson of the Union management committee, sign on the document and approve the expenses

  • Recruit and manage employees  as per the Human Resources Management manual of the Union and directives of the appropriate authority

  • Check the loan agreement approved by Chairperson of the Union management committee, sign on the document and approve the expenses

  • Attend the Union management committee meetings with no vote, provide current report, offer idea and information

  • Take minutes of General Assembly and management committee and document it

  • Inform General Assembly and committee members when the Union meeting is forthcoming 

  • Together with chairperson/vice chairperson, set Agendas for General Assembly and management committee meetings

  • Accomplish any additional assignment given by the Union Management Committee and its chairperson

Number required: 1 (one)

Duty station: Guangua town of Abaya District with frequent travelling to primary SACCOs Offices and kebeles

Salary for all Vacant Posts: As per the Union’s scale

Terms of employment: one year contract based on successful performance.

Job Requirements

Qualification and Requirements:

the potential candidate for the post should have

  • B. Sc. degree from recognized Universities/Colleges in Cooperative Management/Marketing, Business Management, Agricultural Economics, Rural Livelihoods and Development, Agricultural Marketing, or combination of these and other closely related fields.

  • Besides, s/he should have at least 6 years of demonstrable work experience in areas of Integrated Rural Development (IRD), Cooperative Promotion, and Cooperative/agricultural Marketing, 

Additional Requirements

  • Competency in computer applications of MS Offices packages is required.

  • Fluency in understanding, writing and speaking English and Oromo languages is mandatory.

  • Cooperative, team player, gender sensitive and excellent in interpersonal relationships

  • Have a strong commitment and openness to learn and share.
