Job Description
The role:
The CFO/Co-Country Manager presents an exciting opportunity for a seasoned professional to co-manage the organization and spearhead financial management operations. The successful candidate will oversee a range of important tasks, including financial controlling, preparing accurate donor financial reports, developing, and managing budgets, coordinating audits, guiding and overseeing the performance of all finance staff, and ensuring strict compliance with donor regulations. In addition to these core responsibilities, the role involves providing essential program support, overseeing the HR/Admin Manager, and being expected to take on any other operational activities in tandem with the Country Director, making this a multifaceted and impactful position within the organization.
ResponsibilitieS
Financial Management Oversight:
Coordinate financial operations under the guidance of the Country Director, ensuring adherence to organizational goals.
Conduct monthly reviews of consolidated organizational budget performance, forecasting expenses, and tracking commitments against approved budgets.
Advise the Country Director on finance issues, trends, and operational performance, proactively addressing anticipated issues.
Prepare accurate donor financial reports and ensure strict compliance with donor regulations.
Budget Planning and Management:
Ensure long-term budgetary planning and cost management in alignment with strategic plans, leveraging technology for organizational development.
Prepare and analyze budgets, making recommendations on expenditure and ensuring appropriate utilization of program funds.
Internal Controls and Procedures:
Develop and implement financial management policies, procedures, and systems, maintaining adequate internal control mechanisms.
Review accounts, fund balances, and expenditures regularly to minimize significant variances and ensure accuracy.
Coordinate audits and ensure compliance with statutory reporting requirements.
Staff Management and Program Support:
Guide and oversee the performance of all finance staff, providing coaching and support where necessary.
Provide essential program support and oversee the HR/Admin Manager, ensuring efficient operations and compliance with organizational policies and procedures.
Start Date: As soon as possible
Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Accounting or related field; MBA or CPA preferred.
Minimum of 10 years' experience in financial management, preferably in a non-profit or development context.
In-depth knowledge of financial regulations, budget planning, and reporting requirements.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to advise senior management effectively.
Proficiency in financial management software (e.g., QuickBooks, Peachtree) and MS Office Suite.
Knowledge of SunSystems is an advantage.
Openness to traveling to support regional teams across Ethiopia is required.
