Job Description

The scope of Coordinator of psycho-social activities includes:

-          Coordination of the psycho-social project activities in the four SDB centers in the target project areas, namely Mekelle, Adigrat, Adwa and Shire.

-          Collaboration with Salesian of Don Bosco and other humanitarian actors and local authorities to coordinate trauma healing services and advocate for the psychosocial needs of the affected population.

-          M&E of psycho-social activities and reporting on the progress and challenges.

-          Ensure ethical and professional standards of practice and adhering to the principles of do no harm, confidentiality, informed consent, and cultural sensitivity.

 Technical support

-          Facilitate the establishment of the listening units in Mekelle, Adigrat, Adwa and Shire in cooperation with the SDB Trauma Healing Expert and provide orientation, coordination and support to the SDB Consultants

-          Organize the coordination meetings for the SDB consultants of the 4 centers and support their on-going training

-          Develop a PSS counselling guide and specific forms and templates to be used by the Consultants, to provide clear and standardized guidelines for the provision of PSS to selected beneficiaries.

-          Mapping services and advocating for the implementation of a triage-based approach with service accompaniment.

-          Develop a manual for the definition of the vulnerability criteria for the identification of the most vulnerable beneficiaries, in partnership with the SDB Trauma Healing Expert

-          Collaborate with the project manager in data collection and project reporting.

-          Collaborate with the SDB Trauma Healing Expert, other professionals and organizations to create a trauma-informed and trauma-responsive environment that promotes safety, trust, and healing and

-          Advocate for the rights and needs of trauma survivors and raising awareness about the impact of trauma on mental health and well-being.

-          Liaise and coordinate with relevant stakeholders (governmental bodies, humanitarian clusters, hospitals, NGOs, ect.) for the establishment of a proper referral system for MHPSS cases.

 Skill needed and Competencies

-        Knowledge of trauma theory and practice, including the types, causes, effects and stages of trauma, as well as the principles of trauma-informed care and trauma-sensitive interventions.

-        Knowledge of appropriate tools and methods, such as screening, interviewing, observation and standardized measures.

-        Knowledge of the context and the Tigrinya language.

-        Ability to coordinate and facilitate technical meetings, using effective communication, rapport-building, empathy, active listening and feedback skills, as well as applying ethical and professional standards, such as confidentiality, informed consent and boundaries.

-        Ability to monitor and evaluate the outcomes and impacts of trauma healing programs, using quantitative and qualitative data collection and analysis techniques, such as surveys, interviews, focus groups and case studies.

 Institutional Arrangement

The coordinator of psycho-social activities will report to the Project Manager in Tigray and Program Manager at VIS Head Office. The expert will submit monthly reports to his/her supervisors, including activities, outputs, performance indicators, challenges, lessons learned, and recommendations.

Job Requirements

Qualifications

M.A or B.A Degree in Phycology or similar fields

Working experience with INGOs, NGOs, or mental health and PSS institutions of at least 5 years
