Position: Public Health Specialist (Infection Prevention & Control)

Salary: USD $24,124 /Per Year

Summary:

The U.S. Mission, Center for Diseases Control in Addis Ababa/Ethiopia is seeking eligible and qualified applicants for the position of Public Health Specialist Infection Prevention and Control.

The work schedule for this position is:

Full Time (40 hours per week)

Start date: Candidate must be able to begin working within a reasonable period (4 weeks) of receipt of agency authorization and/or clearances/certifications or their candidacy may end.

Duties and Responsibilities

Incumbent serves as the infection prevention and control (IPC) specialist and antimicrobial resistance (AMR) surveillance program coordinator for CDC Ethiopia’s health security and the International Infection Control Program (IICP) at CDC headquarters in Atlanta under the direct supervision of the Division of Global Health Protection Program Director. The position is responsible for assisting CDC Ethiopia, IICP, and partners in the implementation of activities to strengthen and build IPC and AMR surveillance capacity in Ethiopia for the prevention and control of healthcare-associated transmission of diseases, such as COVID-19, as well as antimicrobial-resistant organisms. The incumbent serves as the IPC and AMR technical advisor and primary liaison between the CDC Ethiopia team and IICP to the Federal Ministry of Health (FMOH) and the Ethiopian Public Health Institute (EPHI), other host governmental ministries, implementing partners, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), collaborating USG agencies, and other CDC programs.

Job Requirement

  • EXPERIENCE: A minimum of five years of public health experience; 2 years of experience in either a clinical health setting or in Infection Prevention and Control in low- and middle-income countries (LMIC) is required.

  • EDUCATION: A Master’s (MPH, MSHP) degree in Public Health, Nursing, or Medicine is required.

Evaluations:

LANGUAGE: Level 4 (Fluent) Speaking/Reading/Writing Amharic is required. (This may be tested)

                    Level 4 (Fluent) Speaking/Reading/Writing English is required. (This may be tested)

Skills and abilities:

The incumbent should have detailed knowledge about the WHO Core Components of IPC programs, standard and transmission-based precautions, surveillance, healthcare outbreak detection and response, behavior change, antimicrobial resistance, and quality improvement. Detailed knowledge of the Ethiopia health care system and structures and familiarity with Ministry of Health policies, program priorities, and regulations is required.
