Medical Laboratory Technician Job Responsibilities:

Provides information for patient diagnosis and treatment by performing laboratory tests in toxicology, chemistry, hematology, immunology, and microbiology laboratories; receiving, typing, testing, and recording blood bank inventories.

Medical Laboratory Technician Job Duties:

• Organizes work by matching computer orders with specimen labeling; sorting specimens; checking labeling; logging specimens; arranging reports for delivery; keeping work surfaces clean and orderly.

• Maintains quality results by running standards and controls, verifying equipment function through routine equipment maintenance and advanced trouble shooting; calibrating equipment utilizing approved testing procedures; monitoring quality control measures and protocols.

• Identifies and communicates abnormal patient conditions by alerting supervisory personnel, the patient physician, or nurse; reporting mandated information to the Clinic and HSE department or other designated officials.

• (chemistry) provides test results for patient diagnosis and treatment by operating chemistry equipment; performing hand chemistries

• (hematology) provides test results for patient diagnosis and treatment by operating hematology, urinalysis, and coagulation equipment; performing manual methods of differentials.

• (immunology) provides test results for patient diagnosis and treatment by operating equipment •(microbiology) provides physician with information for treatment of patient infection by performing technical procedures for the identification of bacteria, parasites, fungi, and mycobacteria.

• Contributes to a safe and secure environment for patients, visitors, physicians and co-workers by following established standards and procedures; complying with legal regulations.

• Maintains patient confidence by keeping laboratory information confidential.

• Serves and protects the Company community by adhering to professional standards, Clinic policies and procedures, federal, state, and local requirements.

• Enhances laboratory services and Organization reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.

• Request for the lab equipment, reagents and other consumables timely

• Compile the necessary Report and submit to the respected departments

• Other additional duties by immediate supervisor or department

Job Requirements

Required Skills

• MLT must have a compassionate nature and need to be empathetic to the patients

•  Must be in good health and may have to work at odd hours

• Need to be tactful, patient, understanding, dependable and must possess a desire to help people

• Must have very good communication skills and work as a part of a team

• Must be honest and discreet

• Computer Literacy

Language Skills

• Afan Oromo and Amharic is mandatory

• English language has an asset

Education                 

• Diploma or Level 4 in Medical Laboratory Technician from recognized institution.

• COC Certificate

• Renewed Professional License

• 2 year work experience

Willing to live Modjo or Adama
