Job Description

The Head of Department is accountable to the Deputy Secretary General and is responsible for the planning, organizing, directing and controlling the overall activities of research and advocacy department; responsible for researching political, social, economic and other issues as well as developing designing strategies; position paper and other written materials, designs, creates and delivers advocacy and research programs help promote conducive business environment for the private sector. Thus, the Head, Research and Advocacy Department:-

  • Plans, organizes, coordinates and controls all the research, policy analysis, advocacy, partnership and networking services provided by the Chamber;

  • Ensures that the impact of government policies, strategies, proclamations, regulations, directives, decrees and public notices on the trade and investment activities of the country are assessed; bottlenecks are identified and alternative solutions are developed for advocacy purposes;

  • Leads and coordinates studies conducted on the impact of government policies, strategies, proclamations, regulations, directives, decrees and public notices on the trade and investment activities of the country;

  • Leads and coordinates all functions aimed to create networking and partnerships by identifying & mapping key stakeholders;

  • Works for the development of partnership & networking strategy & guideline;

  • Works for the establishment national private Sector stakeholder’s platform;

  • Works for establishment of partnership with local & foreign organizations having similar PPD forums;

  • Designs strategies for strengthening of in-house research conducting capacity of the Chamber;

  • Coordinates all functions for analyzing issues of the private sector, organizing PPD and ensure sustainability of PPD forums (strengthen the process);

  • Works for the existence of a system to collect relevant information ahead of time from government and other stakeholders and the information to the business community;

  • Works for the existence a system to collect & make use of policy & legislative instrument;

  • Participates in relevant meetings, workshops and seminars to reflect interests & contribution of private Sector;

  • Works for the establishment of round-table discussion with group of business executives, government officials and prominent personalities (via media engagement, breakfast meeting…)

  • Works to ensure that all business related policies issued by the government are critically reviewed before its implementation;

  • Ensures that studies are conducted on various value chains, bottlenecks are identified along the value chains, and multi-stakeholder forums are coordinated to advocate for appropriate interventions by the stakeholders;

  • Prepares annual action plan and submits periodic reports on the performance of the department;

Job Requirement

  • Qualification: MA/BA degree in Economics/Law/Statistics or related fields;

  • Experience:8/10 years of relevant private sector support related workexperience out of which 2/3 years in Managerial Positions;
