Save Your Holy Land Association (SYHLA) is a reputable non-profit organization dedicated to humanitarian and development initiatives in Ethiopia. Established in 2001 and officially registered by the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia with registration number 0382, SYHLA focuses on improving the social, economic, and physical well-being of communities, particularly the youth. Our work spans various sectors including health, education, humanitarian response, peacebuilding, climate change, and eco-tourism. Through collaboration with individuals, communities, and institutions, SYHLA endeavors to foster positive change in both livelihoods and the environment. Currently, SYHLA seeks a qualified OVC Case Management Service Officer for the ADA/USAID-funded Activity titled “Family Focused HIV Prevention, Care and Treatment Services” which is being implemented in North Wollo and Wagihimra Zones, Amhara Region.

Role Overview:

The OVC Case Management Service Officer plays a vital role in developing, implementing, and strengthening an effective strategy for Orphan and Vulnerable Children (OVC) within the program. This role involves identifying OVCs, conducting rapid needs assessments, and delivering comprehensive services to OVCs, their siblings, and caretakers. The Officer provides technical assistance and support to case workers, social service workers, stakeholders, and partners while establishing and maintaining referral networks. Additionally, the Officer focuses on providing a family approach to care and support, including training, mentoring, and supervision in home-based palliative care for people living with HIV, nutritional assessments, and ART adherence support.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Plan, coordinate, implement, and monitor services for Orphan and Vulnerable Children (OVC) based on project scope.

  • Enroll program beneficiaries according to planned priorities and subpopulations, following all necessary client entry and assessment formats.

  • Conduct mandatory assessments required by the program to deliver various services to clients, including household needs assessment, HIV risk assessment, and care plan development.

  • Follow up and monitor needs and services delivered to HIV-positive children.

  • Monitor clinical cascade services for HIV-positive children.

  • Establish and support Community Operation Triple Zero (COTZ) groups.

  • Provide follow-up services to OVCs in health, education, and psychological aspects of their lives.

  • Ensure that OVCs receive planned packages of support regularly as per the case management process.

  • Visit and follow up with OVCs, especially HIV-positive children, to ensure they receive adherence support.

  • Write reports (annual, biannual, quarterly, and monthly) and collect and share success stories and best practices.

  • Work closely with health facilities to support High Viral Load C/ALHIV and address their needs.

  • Plan, organize, and conduct trainings to build the capacity of social service workers and community service volunteers.

Term of Employment: Full-time (1 year) with a possibility of extension based on performance or funding availability.

Job Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree (BSc/BA) in Public Health, Humanitarian Operations, Sociology, Social Work, Psychology, Economics, or related Social Sciences fields.

  • Certificate in Better Parenting and Case Management.

  • Minimum of 2/4 years of relevant experience, with at least 3 years on PEPFAR/USAID funded HIV/AIDS programs.

Skills:

  • Strong organizational, reporting, and interpersonal skills.

  • Excellent communication skills in English and Amharic, both written and verbal.

  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and social media platforms.

  • Strong understanding of case management principles and experience in implementing case management processes for vulnerable populations, particularly Orphan and Vulnerable Children (OVC).

  • Excellent organizational and coordination skills to plan, implement, and monitor OVC services effectively within the scope of the project.

  • Ability to conduct thorough assessments and develop care plans tailored to the individual needs of OVCs and their families.

  • Knowledge of HIV/AIDS prevention, care, and treatment services, with the ability to monitor clinical cascade services for HIV-positive children.

  • Experience in establishing and supporting community groups and networks, fostering collaboration and resource-sharing among stakeholders.

  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to provide support and guidance to case workers, social service workers, and community volunteers.

  • Proficiency in report writing and data collection, with the capacity to compile and share success stories and best practices.

  • Collaboration and teamwork skills to work closely with health facilities and other partners to ensure comprehensive support for OVCs, especially those living with HIV.

  • Training and capacity-building abilities to conduct workshops and training for social service workers and community volunteers, enhancing their skills in OVC care and support.

  • Cultural sensitivity and empathy to address the diverse needs and challenges faced by OVCs and their families with compassion and respect.
