Job Summary
The position holder will be responsible for promoting and implementing inclusive practices for individuals with disabilities. She/He need to possess comprehensive knowledge of disability rights, legal frameworks, and regulations at various levels. With a deep understanding of diverse disabilities and the specific accommodations needed.
The job holder will also ensure that programs and interventions address the unique needs of individuals with disabilities and advocates for accessible services, provides expert advice on disability considerations, and builds networks with organizations working in the disability field. The role focuses on fostering inclusivity, promoting diversity, and ensuring equal opportunities for individuals with disabilities.
Create enabling environment for Disability inclusion, Gender Equitable and Healthy Behaviors including , but not limited:
Possess and implement comprehensive knowledge of disability rights, legal frameworks, and regulations at national, regional, and international levels.
Understands the diverse nature of disabilities and the specific needs and accommodations required for different disability types.
Appreciates diversity, including having an understanding of the varied experiences and perspectives of persons with disabilities.
Demonstrates understanding of intersectionality and recognize the complex ways in which different aspects of identity intersect and impact persons with disabilities
Design local innovative approaches to address long standing harmful practices, such as child, early and forced marriage and FGM.
Support Improved capacities in the field office to ensure gender equality through gender transformation interventions, drawing upon a range of Consortium partners as necessary to carry out activities.
Support in all process of conducting the project’s Gender, Youth, disability and Social Inclusion Analysis, in alignment with the project’s overall formative research plans.
Provide technical contributions in the assigned project implementation areas social and behavior change (SBC) strategies and capacity strengthening activities with government, and local implementing partners related to disability and its intersection with gender and social inclusion, SGBV, human rights, accountability and good governance (with a focus on equitable and quality health services)
Disseminates learning and ensures all staff at the field office level are updated on disability, gender, equitable and healthy behavior.
Implement ActionAid’s best practices and approaches related to the above areas to:
Implement project activities based on the project’s SBC strategies.
Assist in the development of disability responsive and inclusive advocacy and engagement materials, media, and other tools.
Incorporate disability and gender responsive health and other services.
Support in the development of the project’s disability inclusion strategy and related assessments that include understanding of the dynamics in emergency settings or during health shocks.
Provides ongoing backstopping and technical support to staff.
Perform other related activities.
B.A. degree in Social Science, special needs, gender studies, public health, development studies, OR other related disciplines with health-related background
3-5 years of work experience on gender or social and behavioral change, including Gender Based Violence and case management.
A strong understanding of disability rights, legal frameworks, and regulations at national, regional, and international levels in the health sector in particular.
Knowledge of the diverse nature of disabilities and the specific needs and accommodations required for different disability types.
Strong analytical skills to analyze program interventions and ensure inclusion of persons with diverse disabilities and backgrounds.
At least 2 years of work experience in disability inclusion, training, and mainstreaming.
Experience and commitment to align & work with people living in poverty and particularly women and marginalized/excluded groups
A good knowledge of HRBA programming and Feminist approaches
Understanding of national disability policy environment and local and national disability issues
Knowledge of local language
Desirable knowledge and Experience
Disability inclusion related work in an NGO setting.
Previous experience with Disability, Social inclusion and Behavioral and health related programs
