Job Description
Main Purpose of Job
The holder of this position will be responsible for maintaining up-to-date accounting records of Ethiopia office (General Ledger, accounts payables, accounts receivable, revenues, cash and bank). In addition, this role is charged with overseeing liaisons on the ground with local stakeholders and business partners in Ethiopia (tax and local legislative authorities, vendors). The role holder will work closely in liaison with Finance team in Nairobi office.
What you will do
General Ledger
Update the General Ledger (GL) and processes journals at month end.
Prepare monthly balance sheet reconciliations.
Manage statutory compliance on remittances and filings.
Review any updates made to the Fixed Assets Register (FAR) with the asset details and review any discrepancies between the FAR and the GL.
Coordinate audits and reviews with local statutory/legislative authorities.
Assist in preparation of supporting documentation for internal and external audits.
Perform other duties as assigned or directed to ensure the smooth operation of the department.
Accounts Receivable
Carry out daily banking and circulation of cash collections reports to internal stakeholders.
Reprocess cash receipts from clients and relevant tax Certificates into the Accounts Receivable ledger via the reprocessing Application in SAP.
Reconcile receipts sub module of the Bank GL Accounts as well as other assigned GL accounts to ensure all receipts are captured.
Project Services
Circulate weekly revenue flash to teams and provide business insights to Service Lines and Finance team leaders based on available data.
Perform first-level revenue analysis and provide feedback to the Service Line Business Partners on project related results.
Assists Business in collating the required information (such as the project plan, billing schedule and resourcing) to open a project code.
Accounts Payable
Ensure that original tax invoices are received for payment and correct VAT numbers appear on tax invoices per VAT legislation.
Sending vendor remittances and requesting for vendor statements and liaising with vendors to investigate items under query/in dispute.
Processing of claims, cash advances and maintain office petty cash.
Assist Finance team to process statutory payments e.g., VAT, WHT and payroll taxes and to follow up any queries raised by the local revenue authorities.
Governance
Communicates and updates the financial controller on local matters impacting the finance department.
Attends East Africa-wide finance team meetings and training.
Complies with standardized process and controls.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications and Experience
A bachelor’s degree in Business/Commerce/Finance/Accounting.
Minimum four (4) years’ experience in Accounting/ Finance.
Professional accounting qualification (CPA/ACCA).
Experience with SAP ERP (added advantage).
