About Premier Urgency International

 Première Urgence Internationale (PUI) is a non-governmental, non-profit, non-political and non-religious international aid organization. Our teams are committed to supporting civilians’ victims of marginalization and exclusion, or hit by natural disasters, wars and economic collapses, by answering their fundamental needs. Our aim is to provide emergency relief to uprooted people in order to help them recover their dignity and regain self-sufficiency.

 PUI works in 10 areas of intervention and distinguishes itself by the implementation of an integrated approach in its response. This method aims to identify and understand the needs of all those affected by a crisis. Our teams come together to bring a rapid global response to the basic needs of populations affected by humanitarian crises to help them regain independence and dignity.

PUI in Ethiopia:

Although PUI has not been operational particularly in Ethiopia, the organization has long time presence in East African region, mainly in Sudan and South Sudan.

Following the north Ethiopia conflict, which erupted in 2020, and the reports of recurrent drought, which is affecting the life and livelihood of millions in different regions of Ethiopia, PUI decided to contribute its part to address the humanitarian needs triggered by both manmade and natural disasters. For this reason, PUI has been registered with FDRE Authority for Civil Society Organization (ACSO) since June 22, 2022 to enable the organization to operate legally in the country. Since then, PUI has been doing needs assessment in different regions of the country to identify gaps in order to decide where to put its effort for optimum results. Following some of these assessments, PUI has decided to implement its first project in Afar and Benishangul Gumuze region where the consequences of the recent conflict and the ongoing drought has significantly affected the population of the region.

PUI is also actively looking for more partners to respond to more humanitarian needs in other regions of the country which were affected by conflict and natural disasters.  

General Assignments / Scope of the Role:

 To supervise the smooth running of SRH activities, including supervision of BEmONC activities, to ensure 24/7 efficient, effective, and quality care delivered to all patients/clients admitted into health facility and SRH program, in collaboration with the Clinic supervisor, Doctors, and MOH by respecting and adhering to MOH SRH protocols & guidelines.

Summary of Task and Responsibilities

1. Mentor the Midwives /health workers at the health facilities in the intervention area

·      Identifies training needs, reports them to the health project manager, participates in the development of modules, and provides training courses.

·      Participates on job training of all midwives and SRH-related staff

·      Defines the training needs of the midwife and SRH related staff according to project objectives and potential.

·      Collect and analyze the health indicators and provide feedback on this data

·       Make sure that all PUI-supported departments of the health facilities have the necessary supplies to perform their task

·      Compile and submit the data from each SRH to the health project manager in a weekly base   

·      In collaboration with the MOH facility in charge, advise, and organize patient referrals of SRH-related diseases when necessary

·      He/she transmits internal and external reports to his/her line manager while respecting internal validation deadlines and external contractual deadlines (activity reports) .

·      Supervises all minor surgical procedures, dressing, sterilization, and injection services related to delivery, ANC, PNC and FP users in the health facilities.

·      Ensures that basic delivery plans are adhered to by the SRH Unit, and that prescriptions and protocols are respected.

·      Ensures that all pregnant women and newborn children are referred to the Extended Program on Immunization (EPI).

·      Supervises daily routine activities in the delivery ward, ANC, PNC and FP services and support her team members when there is gap.

·      To ensure and identify the needs of the logistic in the ANC, PNC, Delivery and FP and report to line manager.

·      Ensure prescriptions and drugs administration according to protocols are respected.

·      Monitors and supervises weekly and monthly consumption of drugs as well as inventories in collaboration with pharmacy supervisor to ensure efficient drug consumptions and management.

·      Trains and supervises maternity staff regarding the proper use of drugs, needs and consumptions.

·      Supervises and ensures that counselling services are done appropriately following protocols.

·      Ensure that transmission of HIV or other STIs is avoided with the help of Post Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP) and the use of condoms while trying to respect local traditions.

·      Knows SGBV protocol and ensure that it is implemented.

·      Identifies possible victims of SGBV and refers them for treatment according to protocols.

·      Participates in emergency activity or exploratory visit in or out of the project area if needed.

·      Participates in the monthly reports according to guidelines (SitReps, medical statistics, etc.) being responsible for this for all SRH activities - collection and analysis of med stats)

·      If requested by the HPM, will take some additional roles.

2. Planning and organization of activities

·      Ensure the follow-up of the activity schedule in collaboration with his line supervisor;

·      Participate in weekly meetings and adapt the activity schedule to possible changes in context;

·      Participate in the development and implementation of any medical activity that is part of the PUI program or in response to an unforeseen situation;

3. Represent the organization to partners

·      To present the project and ensure the link with the various local partners;

·      Ensure a good relationship between the team and the target population;

·      Collaborate with other actors working in the different under supervision.

·      Elaborate the reports necessary for the project: supervision report, monthly reports etc....

4. Other tasks

·      Participate in PUI project team meetings and strategic thinking.

·      Participate in meetings organized by PUI.

Contribute to the safety monitoring of the zone by reporting to his/her line supervisor any safety-related constraints

Salary Scale: As per the organization salary scale

 Contract Duration: 8 months with possibility of extension

Job Requirements

Required Qualifications and Professional Experience

·      MPH In RH, Midwife nursing with good experience in practical SRH activities

·      At least 5 years of smilar field experience.

·      Expérience in humanitarian works

·      Work experience in BGRS, METEKEL zone
