Job Purpose
ACTED is a French humanitarian NGO, founded in 1993, which supports vulnerable populations, affected by humanitarian crises worldwide. ACTED provides continued support to vulnerable communities by ensuring the sustainability of post-crisis interventions and engaging long-term challenges facing our target populations, in order to break the poverty cycle, foster development and reduce vulnerability to disasters. Their interventions seek to cover the multiple aspects of humanitarian and development crises through a multidisciplinary approach which is both global and local, and adapted to each context.
ACTED is looking for professionally confident, self-motivated, experienced and committed team player to fill the Accountancy Officer position in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
Objectives
Ø Consolidate and follow-up the Financial Internal Control tools and Financial Reporting specifically for the accountancy of the mission
DUTIES & Responsibilities
Accountancy Management & control
Ø Accounting flows: lead the Cash Flow Monitoring Tool consolidation process and review
o Check that the cash and bank balances in SAGA match the cash and the bank balances the cashbook and the physical cash in the safe/bank statement. In case of discrepancy, identify the reasons of the gap and correct it.
o Check the level of open advances and loans
o Crosscheck the Inforeuro Exchanges rates table with SAGA
Ø Record financial transactions in both single-entry and double-entry accountancy systems and ensure the correct allocation of all expenses, based on allocation tables and timesheets. Make sure that all information recorded are in line with ACTED standards (accounting codes, harmonised descriptions, …)
Ø Record expenses made by HQ and other missions on Ethiopia mission’s behalf, ensure correct allocations and share information with other missions
Ø Ensure the correct setting up of SAGA parameters (enter new staff, new suppliers, …)
Participation in the midyear and annual accounting closures processes
Ø Support the preparation of the V1 accounting closure to ensure that flows are closed in a timely manner (cleaning and lettering of advances, transfers, changes, checking reception of local instalments)
Cash and payment management
Ø Ensure sufficient cash in the safe and funds in the bank for payments
Ø Ensure that expatriate benefits payments are made in a timely manner
Ø Review payment documentation and ensure compliance
Annual audit
Ø Support in the preparation of the annual audit
Skills and Experience
· Bachelor's Degree or Higher Diploma in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or related field and two/three years’ experience in working with International NGOs in the similar level.
· Excellent skills in Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel.
· Excellent understanding of double-entry and single-entry accountancy principles.
· Very good knowledge of a double-entry accountancy software (Peachtree, …).
· Knowledge of SAGA is a plus.
· Rigorous and detail oriented.
· Deep and clear understanding of humanitarian principles and activities.
· Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to establish effective and working relationships.
· Excellent communication skills, personable and articulate.
· Fluent in written and spoken Amharic and English.
· Keen to detail and accuracy required and willing to learn.
Proven ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines and work with limited supervision, pro-active and a good team-player.
