BACKGROUND

Kurmuk Gold Mine Plc (KGM) is a subsidiary of Allied Gold Corp which is a global company. The parent company has different mine projects in Mali, cote d’Ivoire as well as Ethiopia. KGM is the owner of Ethiopian project with a Large-Scale Gold Mining License and three contiguous Exploration Licenses. All licenses are located in western Ethiopia approximately 750 km from Addis Ababa, or about 90 km north-west of Assosa town in Benishangul Gumuze Regional State.

KGM is using local and expat professionals, and foreign/local consultants to carry out all the exploration and mining activities. The company currently is looking for professionals in many disciplines to execute its operations diligently and to the international standard.

KGM would like to invite competent, energetic, and qualified applicants for the following vacancy announcement.

Overview of the Position:

Management and oversight of all day-to-day security operations, security personnel, and security functions as directed by and on behalf of the Site Security Manager. To ensure that all Standard Operating Procedures are followed by Security personnel and contracted security service providers. To provide quick and effective reaction to emergency situations and incidents. To manage and administer the Security Department personnel and provide accurate and timely reporting.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • To provide effective management and oversight of manned guarding and security teams.

  • To assist the Site Security Manager in developing a comprehensive Security Response Plan, Emergency Evacuation Plan and other policies and procedures.

  • Liaison with Gendarmerie Nationale and FAMa to ensure uninterrupted armed protection 24hrs a day as per MOUs, enabling a timely response when disruption affects employees, contractors, or visitors by violent or criminal elements, ASM or community action directed against the site, its interests or personnel.

  • Investigating and monitoring Access Control systems; Ensure through liaison with the security service provider supervisors that all personnel understand the principles and operation of all Security detection and monitoring systems available.

  • Oversight of Security contract services and operations. Ensuring optimal and as per contract performance by service providers.

  • Ensure availability of functional security equipment, hardware and software for improved and sustained security operations – seeking continuous improvement of service through liaison with the relevant security stakeholders.

  • Carry out regular audits and assessments of the security response procedures. Reports must be facilitated by the Superintendent identifying anomalies in current systems, making necessary recommendations to support and amend existing procedures.

  • Deliver tailored training programmes for security personnel in conjunction with the Security Standards and Training Coordinator.

  • Maintain security awareness with reports, alerts, briefings, and policy recommendations to the Security Manager.

  • Ensure that all breaches of security are reported to the Security Manager, investigated and remedial action taken. Ensure response and patrol teams monitor and audit security guard’s posts and performance.

  • Ensure managed oversight of the Vehicle Escort Services and Journey Management Protocols.

  • Manage the submittal of the daily work schedule / program for all security teams and the operations daily report.

  • Contracted guard force training, oversight, audit and management operations as detailed by the SSM.

Job Requirements

  • Knowledge, Training & Experience Required:

  • High School diploma or equivalent.

  • Ability to communicate well in English (written and verbal).

  • Military or police background with minimum 10+ years’, in addition to a minimum 5 years’ experience in security at the management level in the private sector.

  • The person should have a background in relevant operational Security positions.

  • Security management and associated training programme delivery experience.

  • The person has to be a self-motivator with good organisational skills.

  • Experience with Access Control and CCTV monitoring systems.

Software/IT Skills:

  • Working knowledge and experience with physical Security techniques, technologies, systems and components including but not limited to access controls and CCTV systems.

  • Working knowledge of appropriate software programs that will facilitate the reporting and control aspects of the role (Word, Excel, Project, Pronto, Access).

Other Skills or Competencies:

  • Incident investigation experience would be beneficial – but not essential.

  • Working knowledge of VPSHR and equality and diversity principles a benefit.

  • Extractive industries experience beneficial – but not essential.

  • Enthusiasm for solving problems and implementing creative solutions by taking timely, decisive action based on available information.

  • Must possess strong cultural sensitivity and be able to execute work successfully in a different culture.

  • Must be able to work unsupervised.
