About the Organization
The Sasakawa Africa Association (SAA) is an international non-profit, non-governmental organization with its Head Office in Tokyo, Japan, and it's Strategic Partnership Office (SPO) in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, and Country Offices in Ethiopia, Uganda, Mali, and Nigeria. SAA envisions supporting Africa to fulfill its aspirations of building resilient and sustainable food systems by catalyzing knowledge sharing with African farmers and enabling food, nutrition, and income security as its mission. The mission is guided by SAA's three strategic pillars: Regenerative Agriculture, Nutrition-sensitive Agriculture, and Market-Oriented Agriculture.
About the position
SAA is seeking a qualified Ethiopian national for the position of Accountant at its Ethiopia Office, based in Addis Ababa. The accountant will report to the Finance Coordinator (FC) and will be responsible for the day-to-day accounting functions of the project. This includes utilizing appropriate systems, following proper accounting procedures, disbursement and reporting of funds, processing staff travel advances, vendor payments, and recording transactions.
Processes payments for staff travel advances, ensuring advances are liquidated on time and accurately
Prepare payment vouchers in support of payments for project activities and suppliers invoices confirming such payments are: in accordance with the laid down procedures and policies, accurate, complete, adequately supported by all underlying appropriate documents, correctly coded to appropriate expenses and tracking code and project code.
Raises journal vouchers for necessary reviews and approvals
Provides support in compiling and submission of the monthly financial reports package for the respective projects
Address monthly financial reports review comments raised by the finance officer in relation to travel and activity advances & respective liquidations
Ensure payments are processed timely in accordance with SAA finance policy and procedures
Making sure no participants is/are paid without completion of proper documentations
Strictly follow withholding tax deduction are made as per the government tax proclamation
Prepare and issue withholding tax receipt to vendors on spot and document it with the payment
Properly handle the financial documents
Cancel supporting documents with “PAID” stamps.
Assist in providing logistical support to program staffs in the Regions Implementation Sites
Work in collaboration with finance Team
Perform any other duties as assigned by his/her supervisor.
Position: Accountant – 10 months (Possibility of renewal based on fund availability)

BA degree in accounting or related field with at least four years of relevant experience, International organizations / NGO experience is plus.
Competencies
Ability to adhere to SAA and local government financial procedures, regulations, and International Public Sector Accounting Standards (IPSAS).
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Microsoft Excel, and operating office equipment (scanning, photocopying, etc.).
Effective communication skills in English, both verbal and written.
Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
