Description:
MERSA Media Institute, in partnership with Deutsche Welle Akademie, is organizing a second round of new-entrants training under the Media and Journalism education project. The training will be a three-month journalism crash course where trainees from different educational backgrounds will get to experience hands-on journalism education delivered by industry experts. The main role of the assistant trainer will be supporting trainers during in-class sessions and mentorship, helping trainers edit trainees' stories, accompanying trainees in all field reporting sessions, and preparing and overseeing studio and editing schedules for trainees.
Duties and Responsibilities
Facilitate journalism education training by preparing and organizing training materials, attending all training sessions, and supporting the mentorship of trainees together with training consultants.
Ensuring trainees’ assignment delivery and helping trainers edit trainees' stories
Accompanying trainees in all field reporting sessions
Preparing and overseeing studio and editing schedules for trainees
Support the project in the procurement process including preparation of TORs, receipts of quotations, and evaluation of bids
Digital publishing and management, graphics design, audio-visual content production for web and social media
Assist in event planning, management, and other project-related activities
Scheduling meetings, setting agendas, and writing meeting minutes for the project team
Organizing, facilitating, and participating in stakeholder meetings
Communication: Write, edit, and distribute content, including publications, press releases, website content, annual reports, speeches, and other materials as needed that communicate the organization’s activities
Documentation: Maintain database: Resources, contacts, project files
Perform any other related task as may be assigned
Job Requirements
Required Qualifications
The required qualifications for this position include
A bachelor's degree in journalism, media, and communication or other related fields.
0-2 years of work experience in a media house
Excellent communication skills
Excellent use and understanding of Microsoft and Google products
Excellent written, editing, and oral communication skills in English and Amharic language
Ability to work under pressure
Desired Qualifications
Previous experience working as a trainer/teacher
Recording, shooting and editing skills
Avid learner, who thrives under pressure
Creative, storyteller, visual thinker
Strong conflict management skills
