Organization Background
JSI is a US-based public health nonprofit organization dedicated to providing high-quality technical and managerial assistance programs throughout the world. In Ethiopia, JSI has been working to improve health outcomes for more than 25 years, implementing more than 60 projects and working in every region. JSI has historically managed a large portfolio of projects focusing on the quality, and equity in access of, RMNCAH services, primary health care (PHC) including community health program, digital health, health information systems (HIS), supply chain management, public health emergency responses, and social and behavior change.
Role Summary
Under the direct supervision of the Grant, Finance and Admin Manager, the Accountant is responsible for preparation of payment vouchers, process advance request, recording cash payments, tax report preparation, and maintain financial documents.
Key Responsibilities
Verification of expense and receipt vouchers and ensuring that all payments meet JSI policies and standard operating procedures.
Prepare payment vouchers for all expenditures, check budget availability, ensure all payments are supported by documentation as required by the JSI and donor regulations and are allocated to the appropriate cost category.
Provide information to appropriate staff concerning payments, advances, required documentation and other financial related information.
Process all travel advance requests and travel expense reports, checking for accuracy and compliance with the JSI and donor regulations.
Maintain petty cash fund and coordinate with the County Office finance team for timely replenishment.
Record all cash payments into the QuickBooks system.
Follow up in completing timesheet and submit them to the Sr. Finance Officer for payroll processing.
Prepare monthly tax and pension payment.
Ensure the timely request of VAT reimbursement to USAID and follow up reimbursement.
Follow up cost share contribution of the project. Check the financial documents of the cost share for accuracy and compliance with USAID and JSI rules and procedures in collaboration with the Sr. Finance Officer.
Coordinate financial arrangements and payments for trainings, workshops and others.
Maintain proper filing system for financial and related documents and ensure that all financial documents are stamped paid.
Liaise with the bank for any bank related process and communications.
Support the monthly consolidation and close-out of all accounts and preparation of financial reports.
Assist the finance team for the preparation budgets and modifications.
Support the review of existing accounting procedures and financial systems; implement changes as required.
Perform any other duties as required and/or assigned.
Job Requirment
BA Degree in Accounting with 7 years of experience.
Experience with QuickBooks accounting software.
Strong working knowledge of government rules and regulations.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to form effective working relationships at all levels.
Willingness to travel to project implementation areas to support field operation.
Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work well in a large team.
Good communication skill.
