He/she will have the following duties and responsibilities:  

·      Works as a member of Gog and Abobo Districts Project Offices with focus on coordination of the GW studies on baboons and other animals.

·      In consultation with veterinarian epidemiologist in Atlanta, attending veterinarian and principal investigator at Ethiopian Public Health Institute, and focal person from Ethiopian Wildlife Conservation Authority develops annual plan for the research and monitors implementation.

·      With support from the pharmaco logistician, initiate procurement of required supplies, monitors progress, and keeps track of research equipment and supplies to ensures supplies chain management meets the organization’s standards.

·      Ensures that all GW studies have ethical approval and facilitates renewal before expiry.

·      In close consultation with the PM ensures that all in country stakeholders in the research are actively engaged and updated on the status of study projects on a regular basis.

·      Participates in current and future research projects on the study of GW among baboons and other animals.

·      In consultation with Veterinarian Epidemiologist in Atlanta and other team members ensures that outputs of the research are put into use to eliminate GW among animals and monitor progress of interventions.

·      Provides training and supportive supervision to baboon trackers.

·      Serves as liaison between the baboon study team and various sub teams within the program (vector control, animal surveillance, animal health) to ensure adequate information exchange and synergy.

·      Works with baboon trackers, veterinarian epidemiologist, wildlife attending veterinarian and data management staff to ensure data are timely and properly collected, compiled, analyzed and used for action at various levels.

·      Contributes to strengthening collaboration and coordination among various key stakeholder engaged in GW research among wildlife including Ethiopian Wildlife Conservation Authority, EPHI, and others with direct and indirect roles in research, policy development, and decision-making.

·      Compiles monthly activity reports focused on research activities and submits to the Guinea worm eradication program manager.

Performs other duties advised by the program manager and other supervisors.

Job Requirements

Qualification: DVM, epidemiology or related fields 

Experience:   Minimum of five years of relevant experience 

Additional/Desired Requirements:

• Understanding animal behavior, habitat needs, and population dynamics.

• Strong analytical skills and ability to generate professional reports. 

• Self-motivated and capable of working well in a team.

• Good interpersonal and team management/coordination skills.

• Willingness to work for extended hours and travel to remote field sites (villages & Kebeles) frequently. 

• A passion for wildlife conservation and a strong work ethic are essential for success in this field.

• NGO experience is a plus. 

Terms of Employment: One-year contract with a possibility of extension.

Salary: As per the organization scale.
