Job Description
Rural Agency for Community Development and Assistance (RACIDA) is a regional non-profit organization headquartered in Kenya and with country Programs in Ethiopia, Kenya and Somalia. The goal of RACIDA is to build community resilience, promote peace and security and prevent humanitarian crisis during emergencies.
The organization development program includes improving access to water through construction and rehabilitation of water facilities; promoting sustainable pastoral livelihoods; natural resource management and peace building & reconciliation.
The RACIDA Ethiopia program strategy encompass mitigation, adaptation and preparedness measures to natural and manmade disasters, such as recurrent droughts, weather extreme, floods, conflict & related displacements.
RACIDA Ethiopia is looking to hire a well experienced Gender and Community Coordinator for its program in Somali region.
About the position:
The Gender and Community Coordinator will play a pivotal role in integrating gender considerations into the CR WASH Activity and fostering strong relationships with community stakeholders at regional and woreda level. This position requires a dynamic individual who is passionate about gender equality and community engagement. The coordinator will ensure that CR WASH Activity is inclusive, equitable, and effectively address the needs of all community members in the target woredas. The position seeks strong coordination and collaboration with the CR WASH Gender Advisor and regional and zonal level gender and community coordinators.
Gender Mainstreaming and Integration:
Ensure gender is mainstreamed in the CR WASH Activity interventions.
Develop and implement strategies to integrate gender perspectives into CR WASH Activity’s regional and woreda level planning, implementation, and evaluation.
Provide training and capacity-building for regional and woreda staff and partners on gender issues and best practices.
Conduct various gender-related assessments in the CR WASH target areas and document the results to inform policy, strategy, and intervention reforms or changes.
Community Engagement:
Build and maintain strong relationships with community members, leaders, and organizations.
Facilitate and conduct community consultations, community sensitizations, social mobilization, and community meetings in CR WASH Activity target woredas in Fafen, Citi, Shebelle and Jarar zones of Somali region to ensure inclusive decision-making.
Act as a liaison between the CR WASH and the community, addressing concerns and feedback.
Program Development and Management:
Collaborate with technical teams to design and implement gender-sensitive CR WASH interventions.
Monitor and evaluate the impact of the CR WASH interventions on gender equality and community development.
Prepare reports, case studies, and documentation highlighting successes and lessons learned.
Advocacy and Communication:
Advocate for gender equality and community priorities within the CR WASH Activity and externally.
Develop communication materials to raise awareness about gender issues and community initiatives.
Represent the CR WASH Activity at regional and woreda level meetings, conferences, and other forums related to gender and community development.
Coordination:
Closely work and coordinate with the staffs of the CRWASH Activity intervention woredas water resource development office, health office and education office in Fafen, Citi, Shebelle and Jarar zones of Somali region.
Attend local level WASH cluster meetings and the woreda level task force meetings, with a special focus to improving gender power dynamics and the quantity and quality of CRWASH Activity deliverables
Coordinate and closely work with the program staffs – construction supervisor, water technician and hygiene and SBC coordinator based in Jigjiga
Coordinate and network with humanitarian organizations, including UN agencies such as UNICEF operational in Fafen, Citi, Shebelle and Jarar zones of Somali region.
Ensure effective and efficient collaboration and coordination between RACIDA and the fund holder (RTI)
Monitoring and documentation
Closely monitor the progress of the performance of the CRWASH Activity and keep in close contact with the CRWASH Activity gender advisor based in RTI Addis Ababa office to keep the CRWASH program on track.
Coaching, mentoring and guidance of woreda level the CRWASH Activity partners staffs in the target woredas, water, health, education and women affairs offices.
Monitor the progress of the CRWASH Activities, identify challenges and propose solutions and strategies to improve effectiveness. This is in close consultation with the CRWASH Activity gender advisor in RTI Addis Ababa office.
Collect and document updated humanitarian situation information/data which will help trigger early action before disaster strikes
Networking:
Liaise with relevant stakeholders in and outside in Fafen, Citi, Shebelle and Jarar zones of Somali region to ensure the success of the CRWASH Activity.
Represent the CRWASH Activity, its results and lessons learned in relevant fora in in Fafen, Citi, Shebelle and Jarar zones of Somali region, in order to create broader awareness of and support for the CRWASH Activity and its results in Ethiopia.
Language: fluency in Somali language is required
Education and experience:
A minimum Bachelor’s Degree in Gender Studies, Social Work, Community Development, and/or other social sciences or related fields
5-7 years of relevant experience working in gender in INGO/NGOs
A minimum of 3 years high level experience in gender is required.
Strong understanding of gender equality principles and community engagement methodologies.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Experience in training and capacity-building.
Proficiency in project management and reporting.
Strong working knowledge of English (spoken and written)
Very good report writing skills
