Job Description

Positive Action for Development (PAD) is a Civil Society Organization established in 2011, dedicated to promoting hope, humanity, and social justice within the community. PAD has established itself as a peacebuilding and civic engagement leader, with a proven track record of successful initiatives. Currently, PAD is implementing the Sustainable Peace Activity in Dire Dawa City, Maya, and Siti Zone. The project's primary objective is to enhance social cohesion and trust among diverse groups in these locations. Through capacity-building initiatives, networking opportunities, dialogues, and the promotion of peace activities, PAD aims to create a more harmonious and inclusive society. By bringing together individuals from different backgrounds and encouraging constructive dialogue, PAD strives to foster sustainable peace and create a platform for active citizen participation. To this end, PAD is looking for a competent Gender Equality and Social Inclusion Officer to develop, implement, and monitor strategies and initiatives to promote gender equality, diversity, and social inclusion within the project.

Job Description:

The Gender and Social Inclusion Officer will be responsible for integrating principles of gender equality and social inclusion into the implementation, and monitoring of PAD's peace-building project. The GESI officer will work closely with the Project Officer, peace-building coordinator, and other stakeholders to ensure the project's activities, outputs, and outcomes are responsive to the diverse needs and experiences of the target communities.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conduct gender and social inclusion analyses to identify barriers, challenges, and opportunities for promoting equality and inclusion within the peace-building project.

  • Develop and implement a gender and social inclusion strategy for the peace-building project, in alignment with PAD's organizational policies and principles.

  • Provide technical guidance and capacity-building support to project teams on integrating gender and social inclusion considerations into all stages of the project cycle.

  • Monitor and evaluate the project's progress towards gender equality and social inclusion goals, using a range of quantitative and qualitative indicators.

  • Collaborate with community-based organizations, women's groups, and other marginalized stakeholders to ensure their voices and perspectives are incorporated into project design and implementation.

  • Prepare periodic reports on the gender and social inclusion outcomes of the peace-building project, highlighting key achievements, lessons learned, and recommendations for improvement.

  • Stay informed of emerging best practices and innovations in the field of gender-responsive and socially inclusive peace-building.

  • Represent the peace-building project in relevant technical working groups, coordination meetings, and external events related to gender equality and social inclusion.

Job Requirements

Qualification: Bachelor's degree in Law, gender studies, social sciences, international development, or a related field.

Experience:

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in designing, implementing, and evaluating gender-responsive and socially inclusive development or peace-building programs.

  • Strong understanding of gender equality and social inclusion principles, as well as their application in the context of conflict prevention and resolution.

Technical skills

  • Excellent qualitative and quantitative research, data analysis, and report writing skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders, including government agencies, civil society organizations, and community groups.

  • Fluency in the local language(s) of the project's target areas, in addition to proficiency in English.

  • Commitment to the principles of gender equality, social inclusion, and conflict transformation.

  • Proficiency in MS Office suite and other relevant software applications.

  •  Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team.

  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.
