Job Description

Brief Organizational Introduction and Project Overview:

REACH Ethiopia is a nonprofit organization registered as an Ethiopian Residents Charity, dedicated to community development through innovative projects. Since 2013, it has implemented community-based TB care and integrated health service projects in Sidama, Central Ethiopia, South Ethiopia, Tigray, parts of Oromia and Afar Regions. Currently, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Regional Health Bureaus, REACH Ethiopia is implementing various projects including new project called USAID- Urban TB LON-II.

The USAID URBAN TB LON II Project is an ambitious initiative aimed at addressing the urban tuberculosis (TB) challenge in Ethiopia. Focused on the city administrations of Harari Region, Shaggar, Harar, and Diredawa, the project's primary goals include identifying missed TB cases, delivering patient-centered care, and fostering innovative solutions to combat TB. This project is pivotal in enhancing TB detection and treatment, with an overarching aim to reduce TB prevalence and mortality in urban environments.

Position Summary

The USAID Urban TB LON II Project seeks passionate Urban Community TB Care Officers to combat TB in Harari Region. You'll bridge healthcare facilities and communities, building the capacity of healthcare workers, improving clinic practices, and supporting data collection. By coordinating volunteers and community outreach activities, you'll play a key role in identifying and treating underserved populations most affected by TB.

Key Responsibilities

Project Coordination and Management:

  • Lead the planning and implementation of project activities at community level in  Harari Region.

  • Collaborate with authorities at Sub-city/Woreda level, community groups, PPM sites and  other stakeholders to ensure effective project execution.

Technical Support and Guidance:

20% Support to Sub-City/Woreda Health Offices:

  • Build capacity of TB/HIV officers through onsite trainings and mentorship.

  • Ensure the implementation of TB Standard Operating Care (SOC) tools.

40% Support to Primary Level Public Health Facilities:

  • Support TB clinics in properly identifying and managing TB cases.

  • Work to improve the quality of TB diagnostics, treatment and care.

  • Ensure the implementation of standardized TB program data registration, analysis, and interpretation.

  • Assist with monthly data collection and reporting through DHIS2 and Activity Kobo systems.

  • Assure the Implementation of standard TB infection prevention and control activities

40% Community Engagement:

  • Coordinate the work of volunteers and peer navigators.

  • Support Health Extension Workers (HEWs), Urban Health Extension Workers (UHEWs), and Family Health Teams (FHTs) to map, screen, and treat underserved key populations (KVPs) in urban settings.

  • Assist in establishing a responsive and participatory community TB program.

  • Coordinate with respective bodies to hold catch-up campaigns to reach underserved population with TB screening, diagnostics and treatment

Stakeholder Engagement and Collaboration:

  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with Community based and community led organizations, health facilities, and community leaders.

  • Represent the project in local meetings and forums, advocating for TB control efforts.

Monitoring and Evaluation:

  • Monitor the progress of project activities at community level, health facility and Sub-city level ensuring alignment with the project's goals and objectives.

  • Contribute to the preparation of reports and updates for Harari Region City and Technical Coordinator

Quality Assurance:

  • Ensure the quality and effectiveness of TB control measures and interventions at community level.

  • Address and resolve challenges related to project implementation.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in public health, Nursing, or a related field with a minimum of 5 years’ experience. Having a master’s degree in area of public health is an asset

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience working on TB programs, preferably in an urban setting.

  • Proven experience in activity coordination, mentorship, capacity building and training delivery.

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and collaboration skills.

  • Fluency in Amharic and English, with strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency in DHIS2 and other relevant data management systems.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Commitment to working in a fast-paced environment.

  • Experience with Similar USAID projects is a plus
