BACKGROUND

Kurmuk Gold Mine Plc (KGM) is a subsidiary of Allied Gold Corp which is a global company. The parent company has different mine projects in Mali, cote d’Ivoire as well as Ethiopia. KGM is the owner of Ethiopian project with a Large-Scale Gold Mining License and three contiguous Exploration Licenses. All licenses are located in western Ethiopia approximately 750 km from Addis Ababa, or about 90 km north-west of Assosa town in Benishangul Gumuze Regional State. KGM is using local and expat professionals, and foreign/local consultants to carry out all the exploration and mining activities. The company currently is looking for professionals in many disciplines to execute its operations diligently and to the international standard. KGM would like to invite competent, energetic, and qualified applicants for the following vacancy announcement.

Key Aims and Objectives:

▪ Develop and implement a strategy and annual business plan for Environmental Management in support of the organization strategy, annual plan and achieving KPIs.

▪ Maintain or improve the environment impacted by the mine development and operations through sustainable solutions and practices.

▪ Initiate value adding projects and methodologies and encourage employee contributions.

▪ Develop a culture of continuous improvement across the function.

▪ Embed sustainability and environment international best practices.

▪ Position the company as a responsible corporate citizen when dealing with Environment.

▪ Develop a culture of continuous improvement across the function.

▪ Support the implementation and the compliance to various environmental reporting and disclosure standards and guidelines such as ISO, the Responsible Gold mining Principles of the World Gold Council etc.

II. Responsibilities

Environmental

▪ Develop and maintain Environmental policies, processes, and procedures to ensure compliance and consistent behavior across all functions of the project/operation.

▪ Manage environmental impact and mitigate with appropriate solutions.

▪ Introduce and maintain an environmental systems and processes to ensure compliance to internal and external standards across all functions.

▪ Identify and implement the latest environmental impact measuring technologies to ensure compliance.

▪ Support the development of closure plan.

▪ Conduct independent environment audits and assurances to proactively ensure and manage internal and external compliance.

General Management

▪ Liaise and coordinate activities with other departments which impact on the sites license to operate such as Communications, Social Performance, Security, Health and Safety.

▪ Managing in collaboration with the communication manager, the production and dissemination of information with targeted publics through appropriate channels in line with the company mission and vision.

▪ Assist with the collection and compilation of social information for the ESG reporting and annual sustainability report.

▪ Contribute to risk assessments and management planning as required.

▪ Participate and contribute to Environmental audits/reviews (either internal or external).

▪ Engage and manage specialist consultants as required.

Employment condition: Full-time (Permanent after probation period).

Location/duty station: Benshangul Gumuz, Asosa Zone, Kurmuk Woreda Project Site - Fly In/Fly out roster (6/2weeks)

Job Requirements

Knowledge, Training, Experience & Skill Required:

▪ Recognized qualification. Master or higher preferred in the field Environmental Management preferred.

▪ 12 years or more with operational experience in Environmental Management within the mining industry of which at least 3 years should be at management level. Experience on construction projects will also be 
beneficial. Preference will be given to candidates with experience at multiple mine sites.

▪ Environment principles, systems, technologies, and trends.

▪ Closure Management including financial, closure models.

▪ Project Management.

▪ Contract Management.

▪ Financial and cost management.

▪ Environmental metrics and reporting

▪ Good communication skills (written and verbal) communication skills – preferably English and Amharic.

▪ Ability to make critical decisions based on individual cases.

▪ Holding people accountable.

▪ Negotiation skills.

▪ Planning and anticipation of risks.

▪ Solution orientated.
