Job Summary:

To assist and work with surgeons, to provide patient care for the patients and to keep the operating room sterile during the operations. And accountable to assist in the provision of quality comprehensive nursing care to the patients and to relieve the charge nurse/nursing supervisor of the assigned unit as necessary.        

Duties and Responsibilities:   

• Guarantees patient confidentiality

• Safeguards safe hospital environment

• Ensures have a positive attitude towards the profession

• Confirms all necessary care is provided to the patient

• Make sure patients are followed by physicians properly

• Pledges Medication, supplies, and instruments are avail to provide care

• Provide care with knowledge, skill and according to the FMHACA standard policy and protocol of the hospital.

• Responds and maintains a sterile field in the operating room.

• Make sure that operation and the recovery room is ready to receive patient.

• Gathers and assembles the supplies needed for surgery.

• Performs patient assessment prior to surgery.

• Assists surgeon and anesthesia provider as needed.

• Prepares and keeps proper position for patient on operating table.

• Handles and passes medical instruments/objects correctly to surgeons. 

• Monitors patients’ vital signs closely prior and during the operations.

• Keep the room temperature of the operation room warm.

• Identify the patient & check every patients chart for (informed consent, the operative record, resent lab results, and blood group, Hgb & Hct. results) before the patient entered to the operation theatre.

• Give ordered medication and care to the patient.

• Calm the patient to alleviate the fear of operation.

• Inform the patient clearly about the care you are going to give.

• Confidentiality of the patient should be kept all the time.

• Document your every activity to the patient.

• Document every patient’s condition regularly.

• Keep up-to-date knowledge and skill.

• Check availability and functionality of all the equipment & keep their durability. 

• Make sure that all the instruments are ready & all machines are functional before the operation started.

• Properly decontaminate, disinfect & sterilized equipment. 

• Fill the bill for each procedure done.

• Develop good communication with patients & staffs.

• Reports to operation clinical team/leader after operations.

• Be always on time during all duty hours both physically and mentally.

• Wear uniforms properly.

• Be willing to assist patients and colleagues whenever needed.

• Give comments positively for each other.

• Ask any unclear and/or new treatment or dx

• Have ability to work under pressure.

• Be willing to work off duty hours.

• Be willing to assist/ do extra hours whenever needed.

• Be physically available on your station.

• Be  physically capable of positioning and lifting unable patients

• Be organized and planned all the time.

• Write records accordingly and timely

• Performs other related duties as assigned

Job Requirement

Minimum Specification Requirement

Educational Qualification & Work Experience

• BSc in Nursing

• 3 years OR related work experience

Knowledge and Skills Requirements

• Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required. (Optional)

• Proficiency in the use of advanced medical equipment and technology used in OR.

• Strong clinical judgment, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.

• Effective communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with the healthcare team.

• Commitment to continuous learning and professional development.

• Good communication and coordination skill 

• Ability to work under pressure

• Have some computer skills. 

Working Condition

• The working condition will be Regular or shift as per the department Schedule
