Samaritan’s Purse is a nondenominational evangelical Christian organization providing spiritual and physical aid to hurting people around the world. Since 1970, Samaritan’s Purse has helped meet needs of people who are victims of war, poverty, natural disasters, disease, and famine. Samaritan’s Purse is privileged to be part of the humanitarian effort in Ethiopia and legally registered as foreign charity to work in Ethiopia since October 08, 2018.

JOB SUMMARY
Samaritan’s Purse (SP) is currently implementing WASH Program in Six IDP camps in Shire, Tigray – BGI, Preparatory, Five Angels, Recreation Center, Guna, and Mai Dimu. The objective of the project is to provide clean water and support basic sanitation and hygiene services in IDP camps. Through this project, Samaritan’s Purse Ethiopia (SPE) will support three IDP camps with clean water access through extending pipelines from the main water pipeline in Shire to the camps. Sanitation and hygiene will be supported in the five camps previously supported by SP through more participatory approaches, encouraging more community responsibility in taking care of their sanitation and hygiene. This will be combined with provision of desludging services and maintenance of sanitation infrastructure. The WASH Assistant is expected to oversee the Water system, Sanitation and hygiene promotion activities at the specified location.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Conducts assessments and reports as required
Supervise construction or maintenance of water system and sanitation; and Ensure functionality and quality according to the BOQ and Materials break down.
Provide necessary technical support to WUC, operators and technician of the water supply system.
Serves as the main focal point for hygiene promotion activities
Conducts training on operation and Maintenance of water systems and hygiene promotion campaigns, initiates sensational campaigns, and raises awareness on latrine usage and utilization, PHAST and WASH’EM.
Plays a significant role in participating in local meetings and identifying opportunities and lessons learned for communities regarding hygiene promotion barriers.
Conducts determined barrier analysis for hygiene practices
Works closely with local stakeholders in the Woreda, providing training, facilitating TOT training, and conducting follow-up visits.
Writes Weekly report of the field activities to the supervisor

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE NEEDED
BSc Degree in Water Engineering, Public Health, Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or equivalent Degree in related field
Two/three years of experience in WASH project
Previous INGO work experience preferred
LANGUAGE
Fluency in English, Amharic and Tigrinya language is required
