Job Description

The House of Hope Manager, Girls’ is responsible for overseeing all operations and providing quality care services to support the various and complex needs of children, families, and communities served through AGCI’s reunification and reintegration programs. He/she acts an advocate for the well-being of vulnerable children, leading program staff to seek the best outcomes and meet the needs of beneficiaries. This individual will provide leadership for the delivery of services, expertise and/or consultation within the House of Hope and with partners providing residential care. In collaboration with other management staff, he/she acts as a liaison with partner organizations and government offices to represent AGCI at the local level, promoting and demonstrates knowledge of trauma quality management methods, tools, and techniques and ability to create and support an environment that meets the quality goals of the organization.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage the daily operations of the AGCI’s residential programs to ensure quality service in accordance with the relevant legislation, procedures, policies of AGCI Head Office, AGCI Ethiopia Operational Agreement, and House of Hope Values and Standard Operating Procedures.

  • Provide a clear path of entry for children referred to the House of Hope through maintaining ongoing relationship with the Addis Ababa Police, Women and Children Affairs Government Institutions, and other partners, in collaboration with other management level staff.

  • Oversee structured case plans to ensure the delivery of high quality, clinically informed practices, services, and protection for all beneficiaries and their families.

  • Ensure that professional ethics and trauma-informed behaviors are demonstrated by all staff at all times, actively co-ordinate the service provision and be a focal point for support, advice and coaching to all staff within the House of Hope

  • Verify, in consultation with Finance and HR Director, for settlement of petty cash expenses of day-to-day routine operations of the House of Hope

  • Collaborate with Finance and HR Director, Country Director, and/or AGCI Head Office on preparation of annual operating budgets and management of program resource allocation. 

  • Guides the appropriate utilization of funds to ensure the control and monitoring of excess resources.

  • Facilitates seamless communication with Ethiopia Country Director and AGCI Headquarters, ensuring timely and accurate provision of essential information to support informed decision-making on AGCI Ethiopia's activities.

  • Formulates program strategies, operational plans, metrics, and protocols to achieve House of Hope objectives while upholding AGCI's global standards in child protection and service excellence.

  • Provide training to caregivers, staff, children, and families in trauma-informed strategies, childcare, hygiene, nutrition, emotional development, and other related topics.

  • Offers direct assistance, support, and training as required for children, families, caregivers, staff, and community leaders participating in AGCI's programs. This includes addressing child advocacy matters and conducting ethical and comprehensive needs assessments for institutions, children, families, or caregivers.

  • Compiles and maintains essential records and reports, including budgets, training manuals, and operational documentation, to support AGCI Ethiopia's operation.

  • Utilize existing AGCI case management database for tracking communication with existing partners, trainings, and other pertinent information. 

  • Collaborate with Ethiopia Country Director, other program directors, and AGCI Head Office to develop and conceptualize programs and initiatives in Ethiopia based on the strategic vision and goals of the organization.

  • Collaborate with Ethiopia Country Director, other program directors, and AGCI Head Office to partner with local leaders and government representatives to develop and strengthen AGCI’s reputation and working relationships in Ethiopia.

  • Develops and submits metrics, reports, and budgets for the House of Hope as requested.

General Administration: 

  • Work with AGCI Headquarters to highlight the impact of AGCI’s House of Hope program in Ethiopia with individual sponsors, donors, and foundations.

  • Collaborates with the Country Director, Africa Programs Director and AGCI headquarters to report program activities and develop materials and multimedia content aimed at highlighting AGCI’s work in Ethiopia.

  • Meet other marketing requests and participate in fundraising activities as directed by AGCI Headquarters or the Country Director

  • Provides administrative and/or hosting support for AGCI vision trips including creating agendas, organizing site visits, and engaging in conversation with AGCI major donors during the trip to help them understand AGCI's work and programs in Ethiopia.

  • Maintain high standard of services to beneficiaries, partners, and external guests.

  • Lead and attend weekly meetings with the House of Hope Care Team and AGCI Head Office 

  • Respectfully take direction from the AGCI Ethiopia Country Director and AGCI Headquarters 

  • Maintain punctual, regular, and predictable attendance; can work evenings and weekends, as required. 

  • Attend and participate in staff meetings and training courses as required

  • Exemplify a collaborative, trust-based and relational team environment with a spirit of cooperation and humility. Leads by example by being open to all levels of work and support for the organization

Job Requirements 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE 

University degree in Psychology, Social Work or related Social Science plus seven or more years related work experience in non-governmental organizations. Experience in residential programming in a managerial role required. Familiarity with community, government, and social service agencies/resources in Ethiopia required plus a proven ability to work with children of all ages. TBRI® Practitioners will be given preference.

LANGUAGE SKILLS 

  • Ability to read, write, analyze, and interpret general business correspondence, reports and inquiries in English and Amharic. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from supervisors, donors/sponsors, clients, vendors, organization partners, and the public in English or Amharic. 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS 

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Computes rate, ratio, percent, and calculates figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, and currency conversion accurately. 

COMPUTER SKILLS 

  • Job requires intermediate computer skills including logging into systems, word processing, spreadsheet, report writing, project management, presentation creation/editing, database utilization, use of internet and communication by e-mail. Requires learning and ongoing use of AGCI’s sponsorship database. 

REASONING ABILITY 

  • Ability to work with and protect extremely confidential files and information and have the appropriate discernment regarding handling issues of varying complexity and sensitivity. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions and can deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables. Has the discretion to weigh the levity of an issue and pass along to the appropriate party/leader within the organization, as needed.
