Translators transcribe written documents from one or more languages to another ensuring that the message and nuances therein remain in the translated material. They translate material backed up by an understanding of it, which can include commercial and industrial documentation, personal documents, journalism, novels, creative writing, and scientific texts delivering the translations in any format.

Job Requirements

• Education: A first-level degree from a university or an institution of equivalent status. Candidates for this position must have passed the relevant United Nations Competitive Examination for Translators/Précis-Writers or the relevant combined United Nations Competitive Examination for Translators/Précis-writers, Editors, and Verbatim Reporters; this requirement will be waived for candidates who passed one of the relevant United Nations competitive examinations held before 2017 for Editors or Verbatim Reporters, subject to an assessment test to be conducted by the hiring manager as part of the Inspira selection process. Successful completion of both degree and non-degree programs in data analytics, business analytics or data science programs is an advantage.

• Work Experience: A minimum of two years of experience in translation is required. Translation experience in the United Nations Common System or international organizations is desirable. Experience of translation in a broad range of subjects dealt with by the United Nations Common System or international organizations (social, economic, financial, administrative, scientific, and technical), with a recognized specialization in a particular substantive, technical or administrative area, is desirable. Experience in data analytics or related area is desirable.

• Languages: English and French are the working languages of ECA. For the post advertised, a perfect command of French, which must be the candidate’s main language is required. An excellent knowledge of English and knowledge of another official language of the United Nations, as tested by the United Nations competitive examination for French translators/précis-writers, are required.
