Job Description

The Population Council Ethiopia office seeks a Research and Grant Officer to support research and resource mobilization activities in the following four priority areas: sexual and reproductive health, adolescents and young people, gender equality and equity, and climate and environmental changes. Since 1993, in partnership with government, ministries, and community-based organizations, the Council has aimed to improve the lives of adolescent girls, young women, and men and boys in Ethiopia. The Council conducts population-based surveys and qualitative studies, generating reliable data for shaping national and international policies and programs for young people in Ethiopia and globally.

Responsibilities:

The Research and Grant Officer will support the Council’s Ethiopia office by leading and coordinating research and resource mobilization activities under the supervision of the Country Director.

Research Support:

  • Enhance research capacity by generating evidence and interpreting findings in the Council’s four priority areas.

  • Support research evidence dissemination activities through stakeholders’ workshops, reports, conference presentations, and journal publications.

Resource Mobilization:

  • Develop new business opportunities for the Ethiopia Office, including writing and developing proposals, concept notes, and other materials.

Project Implementation:

  • Strengthen project implementation capacity with government agencies, UN agencies, civil society organizations, and national strategic partners in Ethiopia.

Networking:

  • Participate in and contribute to research forums such as conferences, workshops, and meetings to promote the Council’s work, increase visibility, network, and establish collaborations.

Qualification and Experience:

  • Master’s degree in public health, anthropology, project management, public policy, international development, or any related field.

  • At least 5 years of progressively responsible work experience in research, grants management, or project management at national and international levels. Research and resource mobilization experience in the Council’s four priority areas, preferably at the intersection of two or more areas, is highly advantageous.

  • Demonstrable experience in resource mobilization and writing grant proposals for funding.

  • Strong research skills, including the ability to generate and interpret evidence, and experience in mixed-method research are a plus.

  • Demonstrated proficiency in data analysis software for both quantitative and qualitative data analysis (e.g., Stata, SPSS, R, Nvivo, ATLAS.ti).

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English and one or more local languages.

  • Interpersonal skills to effectively engage with colleagues and partners at multiple levels and across various stakeholders.

  • Proven track record of managing multiple concurrent tasks and delivering high-quality outputs under tight deadlines.
