Job Description

       Position: Drivers

  • Organization: PETCO Ethiopia Community Organization

  • Number of position required: 1 (one)

  • Location: Mekelle

  • Report to: Field Office Coordination Program Officer

  • Salary: Competitive salary and a range of additional benefits

  • Employment Term: Annual contract, renewable based on available fund

 Key Responsibilities

  •      Driver for the project in Addis Ababa and out of city with a willingness to travel to field locations, 

  •        Responsible for providing safe and reliable transportation services for project staff, materials, and equipment.

  •        Ensuring the successful implementation of project activities by facilitating travel to various project sites, meetings, and events. 

  •        Involved in supporting field operations and logistics coordination, contributing to the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the project.

  •        Safely operate project vehicles, including cars, vans, or trucks, to transport project staff, equipment, and materials to field locations and project sites across Cities.

  •           Adhere strictly to traffic rules and regulations, as well as project safety policies, to ensure the safety of passengers and cargo during travel to field areas.

  •          Plan travel routes and schedules in coordination with project staff, considering factors such as road conditions, distance, and timing, to ensure timely arrival at field destinations.

  •        Assist project staff and visitors with loading and unloading of luggage, equipment, and supplies, ensuring proper handling and securing of items within the vehicle.

  •         Conduct routine pre-trip and post-trip inspections of vehicles to check for any mechanical issues, damages, or safety hazards, and report any discrepancies to the appropriate supervisor.

  •          Maintain cleanliness and organization of project vehicles, both internally and externally, by regularly cleaning and tidying the vehicle and ensuring proper disposal of waste.

  •            Keep accurate records of vehicle mileage, fuel consumption, maintenance activities, and transportation logs, and submit regular reports to the project management team.

  •            Coordinate vehicle maintenance and repairs with authorized service providers as needed, ensuring that vehicles are in good working condition for field travel.

  •           Assist with other logistical tasks and administrative duties as assigned by the project management team to support field operations and project implementation.

Job Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Valid Ethiopian driver's license with a clean driving record drives both manual and automatic transmission vehicles safely and proficiently.

  • Proven experience as a driver, preferably in a similar role within the development sector or for international organizations.

  • Good knowledge of local road networks, traffic regulations, and safety practices in Ethiopia, especially in rural and remote areas.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact courteously and professionally with project staff and stakeholders.

  • Strong time management and organizational abilities, with the capacity to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines, especially during field travel.

  • Basic knowledge of vehicle maintenance, with the ability to perform minor repairs and maintenance tasks.

  • Flexibility and adaptability to work irregular hours and travel extensively to field locations across Ethiopia as required by project activities

  • Respect for confidentiality and adherence to ethical standards in all aspects of work.

  • Good in English and proficiency in Amharic or other local languages is preferred.
