Job Description

Admissions Manager

Under the direct supervision of the Head of the School (HoS), the Admission Officer is the public face of the academy. The Admission Officer acts as the initial point of contact for all admissions inquiries providing routine information regarding the admissions process to parents/guardians, and students. The Admission Officer must be able to effectively communicate the value of the school in a way that resonates with a wide diverse parent population and stakeholders. The Admission Officer is responsible for developing recruitment strategies and overseeing the admissions process from start to finish, always putting into major consideration the kinds of high-quality students and parents we strive to admit into our system. The Admission Officer is responsible for developing and implementing recruitment plans and strategies, managing the student registration and application review process, and overseeing all admissions communications internally and externally.

The general aim of the position 

  • To ensure, at the point of entry, that the LIA community is composed of highly engaged students and parents who agree with the LIA philosophy, share/uphold its values, and are willing to contribute to and actively engage in School life.

  • To be responsible for all matters relating to School Admissions, and Transfers.

  • To undertake a variety of administrative duties associated with Admissions.

  • To contribute meaningfully to the senior management team’s effort in operationalizing Lebawi’s vision and mission.

  • To provide an efficient and effective admissions service to LIA and prospective parents and students.

Cooperation and Reporting Relationships 

  • The Admission Officer is directly responsible and accountable to the HoS and the Executive Assistant

  • The Admission Officer reports to the HoS and the Executive Assistant

  • The Admission Officer is a member of the senior management team, and works very closely with all the senior managers.

Priority tasks & responsibilities

  • Responding promptly to admissions inquiries for the KG, Elementary, Middle School, and High school divisions via phone or email, and in person, sending relevant material/information and recording data on the admissions database.

  • Accepting and filtering parent, and student applications and responding to information requests.

  • Assessing applications according to LIA eligibility criteria.

  • Organizing and filing recruitment, registration, and payment documentation.

  • Communicating with applicants about their application status, including acceptance/rejection.

  • Participating in and delivering information sessions to LIA’s internal and external constituents.

  • Collaborating with the PTA to secure support as appropriate and needed.

  • Referring scholarship applicants to the Dean of Student Affairs for processing.

  • Interviewing applicants to assess their suitability for the school and providing feedback to applicants regarding their application status.

  • Reviewing applicants’ previous academic performance and transcripts, as well as letters of recommendation, test scores, and other relevant information.

  • Conducting parent interviews and determining suitability with the LIA environment.

  • Recommending acceptance or denial of applications based on evaluation of academic qualifications, test scores, letters of recommendation, extracurricular activities, and other factors for students.

  • Recommending acceptance or denial of applications based on evaluation of parents’ backgrounds, and interests/reasons for choosing LIA.

  • Providing information about the school’s programs, curriculum, facilities, and all other related factors.

    Other responsibilities

  • Attending events to recruit new parents and students to the school and observe the confidentiality of information at all times.

  • Attending key partner meetings and events to support the development of longer-term delivery of admissions.

  • Fulfilling tasks that may be required from time to time by the HoS regarding marketing.

  • Ensuring that LIA admissions policies and practices meet and exceed all relevant national legislation and international standards.

  • Maintain a tidy desk policy within the Admissions Team to promote and adhere to LIA’s mission, vision, and values.

  • Work closely with all relevant functional areas within the school to align LIA’s admissions policies and practices with overall operations.

    Parent engagement and retention

  • The Admission Officer develops and executes a calendar of events in collaboration with relevant functional areas, to build trust and establish open engagement with parents of the school.

  • The Admission Officer supports the ongoing engagement of local/international parents and follow up on any issues raised to a satisfactory conclusion in a timely manner.

Job Requirements

  1. Minimum 3 to 5 years of professional experience in an international school environment as an administrator and/or in management. Experience is Admissions office & enrollment is a PLUS.

  2. First degree from an accredited institution of higher learning.

  3. Excellent skill-set using Microsoft packages such as Word, Excel, and Outlook.

  4. Excellent bilingual competencies (written and spoken) in Amharic, and English.

  5. Multicultural competencies with ability to move in and out of various cultural settings.

  6. Ability to work as part of a team.

  7. Highly motivated to undertake self-initiatives.

  8. Demonstrated seriousness about the importance and value of education.

  9. Passion to provide service and add value.
