Position: Gender and Protection Officer 

Type of Contract: Contract

 Required Number: 1

Duty Base: Tigray Raya Azebo

The role holder is responsible for providing technical expertise and guidance to ensure the effective integration of gender equality and protection considerations into the program. The officer will be conducting comprehensive analyses, developing tailored interventions, building staff capacity, advocating for women, girls and marginalized groups. 

Key Accountabilities/Responsibilities 

  • Conducts gender analyses to identify gender-specific vulnerabilities and risks.

  • Designs and implements gender-responsive interventions to address identified needs and concerns.

  • Builds capacity and raising awareness on gender and protection issues among stakeholders, including beneficiaries, communities, government officials, and other NGOs.

  • Ensures adherence to international standards and frameworks related to gender equality, protection, and human rights.

  • Advocates for the rights of women and marginalized groups and addressing gender-based violence.

  • Promotes gender equality and women's empowerment throughout all stages of the project.

  • Manages the coordination of protection and cross-cutting actions within the project.

  • Guides and coordinates consortium members on protection and other cross-cutting activities.

  • Provides guidance and support to project officers and experts.

  • Networking and building partnerships with governmental and non-governmental organizations.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor and/or master’s degree in psychology, gender studies, human rights, Sociology, Anthropology, and other related social science disciplines with a minimum of four years with BSc or 2 years for MA/MSc with proven experience.

  • Proven experience in the design and implementation of gender and protection programs and emergency programs protection 

  • Experience in the context of emergency, conflict, and/or recovery phase is an asset.

  • Strong task management skills, including attention to details.

  • Good understanding of and commitment to following international standards such as the Sphere Handbook, particularly on Protection, Human Rights Based Approaches and GBV.

  • Commitment to enhance women and youth’s leadership in emergencies and to implement ActionAid’s women-led community-based protection approach.

  • Have full working knowledge of English and local languages.
