Job Description
The PATH Social Worker will be based in Chiro Town (Asebe Teferi), West Hararghe Zone, Oromia region, and is expected to perform duties and responsibilities including the following:
Beneficiary Selection:
Participate in beneficiary selection and admission
Go home-to-home to investigate families eligible for admission according to government referral and intake criteria
Fully fill out intake and assessment forms
Document family stories and backgrounds
Assess and investigate the eligibility of the beneficiaries according to set criteria
Interview and review beneficiary background information and properly document it in the beneficiary intake form
Child Beneficiary Mentorship and Oversight:
Provide counseling (including family counseling) to child and family beneficiaries including home-to-home visits and center sessions
Track beneficiaries’ ongoing behavioral changes; fill out forms/reports on changes and developments in beneficiary behavior
Communicate with other PATH staff members and beneficiaries’ parents regarding child behavior
Ensure that children and families are taking proper care of school and personal materials including clothing, backpacks, and shoes
Conduct follow-up counseling as needed until behavior and character issues positively change
Track the school performance of the children and record their educational progress
Communicate with teachers on student behavior
Track students’ grades and school performance
Participate in weekly beneficiary mentorship/leadership/tutorial program
Observe and follow up on child behavior
Provide guidance and counseling as necessary to correct behavior and build character
Prepare and provide trainings and education on matters of teambuilding, leadership, ethics, maintaining personal hygiene, how to care for one’s self, and maintaining and keeping personal health
Women Beneficiary Mentorship and Oversight:
Supervise and assist with women's empowerment activities
Provide financial coaching and consulting to beneficiaries
Organize women into Self Help Groups (SHGs) and facilitate weekly meetings
Track and record women’s weekly attendance
Assist and encourage women in weekly SHG meetings in weekly money savings, in problem solving, and in preparing their Income Generating Activities (IGAs)
Mentor women beneficiaries as they develop business ideas, market analysis, and plans of action while they complete their training and meet on a weekly basis
Perform home-to-home visits for ongoing follow up and reporting
Ensure that PATH provided food assistance is being fed to and consumed by beneficiary children
Prepare and provide trainings in business skills, life skills, home economics, capacity building, parenting skills, and nutrition and health
Collaborate with relevant stakeholders and facilitate market linkage
Visit women in their places of work and at their homes when they begin and expand their IGAs
Track and record women’s work and personal development, progress, and successes
Fill out workplace visit forms and success story forms in order to update administration of current standings of each beneficiary
MHM (Menstrual Hygiene Management) Program
Participate in new school and student screening and surveying as necessary
Participate in giving Menstrual Health and Hygiene Management awareness training for students and teachers, as well as any other relevant trainings under this program
Adult Education Program
Assist in preparing and providing adult education trainings in reading, writing, and mathematics
Prepare and provide trainings in business skills, life skills, home economics, capacity building, parenting skills, and nutrition and health
General Responsibilities:
Continuously update child and guardian profiles ensuring that all information is present and up to date
Conduct quarterly follow-up assessments
Perform regular follow ups of activities, maintain accurate records/documentation, and prepare relevant reports, including communicating with school teachers, beneficiary families, government stakeholders, and administration for accurate and updated student information
Perform other duties to be assigned by the program coordinator or administrative management of the organization
Communicate well with office staff
Work with a self-improvement mindset
Coordinate with other program staff in relevant activities including food distribution and information gathering
Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Sociology, Psychology, Education, or related fields
3+ years of relevant experience in woman and child protection and related fields
Direct case management experience working with impoverished and vulnerable women and children
Demonstrated flexibility and creativity in planning and problem solving
Skills and Qualifications
High competency in time management and usage of time management tools and resources
Physical ability to give frequent trainings and to go into the field, often on foot, to visit beneficiaries in their residences and places of work
Intermediate and above proficiency in the following computer skills:
Microsoft Word
Microsoft Excel
Microsoft PowerPoint
Ability to prepare field reports and write letters
Fluency in Amharic and Afan Oromo
Excellence in written English
Preferred Skills
Proficiency/experience in various surveying and data collection software (like Kobo Toolbox)
Training or Certification in Entrepreneurship
Excellence in spoken English
During a shift, social workers are expressly forbidden to engage in behavior that goes against PATH ethics including but not limited to:
Drinking alcohol, chewing chat, smoking, stealing property
Verbally or physically abusing staff, volunteers, guests, or beneficiaries. This includes the express prohibition of hitting beneficiary children for any reason.
Salary and Benefits
Gross Salary up to 17,000 ETB
Salary is fixed to current USD exchange rate
