The Activity focuses on enhancing multisector coordination and accountability; improving nutrition practices and health-seeking behaviors; and strengthening the delivery of quality nutrition services within USAID’s Feed the Future Zones of Influence.

Job Summary

The Driver will provide safe and efficient transport service for the FHI360 staff and visitors. S/he will transport project staff, consultants, and visitors to designated approved locations; ensure safety, cleanliness, security, and maintenance of the vehicle; and provide day-to-day maintenance of the vehicle.

Location: Somali Region, Jijiga Office

Key Responsibilities

  • Receiving the vehicle with its accessories by hand-over documents and signs hand-over formats for receipt of the vehicle with its accessories

  • Providing driving services to the coordinators, managers, staff members, visitors, and guests from the Head Office

  • Handles clients with due care and respect. Respect the faith and culture of different communities.

  • Respect the rules and regulations of departure and arrival hours according to the logistic manual.

  • Handles confidential matters with due care and in consultation with senior staff.

  • Maintains records of the logbook for all journeys undertaken, fuel consumed, and repair costs and ensures the logbook is available for inspection at any time.

  • Before starting the vehicle’s engine each day, check the level of engine oil, radiator, and windscreen water is adequate, etc

  • Every week, check the level of brake and clutch oil, battery water, and the pressure of tires is at the proper levels, and also ensure that all lights and indicators are working properly.

  • Ensures that the assigned vehicle is not driven by another person unless authorized.

  • When assigned, assists in local purchasing/expediting activities.

  • Ensuring that the vehicle assigned to him/her is clean, the fuel tank is full, lubricated and regularly serviced as per schedule.

  • Keeps all tools and reserve tires with due care. Handles the vehicle and other related accessories and materials with due care.

  • Cleans seat belts each day wears the same at all times and insists all passengers do the same.

  • Carry out minor vehicle maintenance at specified intervals and keep thorough maintenance logos for each vehicle.

  • Has the FHI-360 logo visibly displayed on all FHI-360 vehicles, except where this would jeopardize staff safety and be inappropriate to specific local circumstances?

  • Park in safe and secure areas for all FHI-360 vehicles during working and non-working hours. Parks the Vehicle in a safe place during the night.

  • Undertakes minor repairs of the vehicle.

  • Report accidents as occurred immediately.

  • Adheres to the rules and regulations of Save the Children International.

  • Respect the traffic rules and regulations strictly

  • Performs other related tasks as required

Supervision Given/Received:

  • General supervision and instructions are given for routine work and detailed instructions with periodic work review are given for new activities or special assignments.

  • Contacts are typically with individuals within their department and with contacts outside the organization.

  • Contacts involve obtaining or providing information or data requiring some explanation or interpretation.

Job Requirements

Education:

  • Minimum secondary school education or equivalent.

Experience:

  • Completion of 12th grade or 10th grade with current educational system.

  • Own at least a third-grade valid driving license.

  • Trained in Safety and Security, defensive driver.

  • At least 5 years of work experience in International NGOs with a clean driving record.

  • Willingness to work over weekends, holidays, and harsh climatic situations.

  • Knowledge of basic computer skills is an asset.

  • Experience in vehicle maintenance.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively in difficult environments.

  • Good English in written and oral communication skills

Typical Physical Demands:

  • Ability to spend long hours looking at computer screens and doing repetitive work on a keyboard.

  • Ability to sit and stand for extended periods.

Technology to be Used:

Personal Computer/Laptop, Microsoft applications (i.e., Office 365, SharePoint, Skype/Zoom/Teams), cell phone/mobile technology, and standard office equipment.

Travel Requirements:

Up to 50-70 %
