Job Description
Emory university Ethiopia is registered as an international not for profit, non-government organization and established a legal presence and a country office in Addis Ababa and operating in Ethiopia since 2011. Emory is known for innovation, high quality performance, and ability to effectively collaborate with partner organizations and stakeholders. Emory University is dedicated to implement a community based Maternal, Newborn and Child Health (MNCH) and nutrition interventions to support the Ministry of Health’s efforts to increase access to and utilization of Quality Maternal and Newborn Health and Nutrition Services. Emory University is seeking qualified candidates for the following open post.
The Safety and Security Capacity Building Advisor will directly report to the Deputy Country
Director and work with the Program Director and Emory’s Director of Global Safety and Security.
• Responsible for proper follow-up and safety audits all times.
• Create a framework for building the capacity of the Crisis Management Team (CMT)
• Respond to inquiries and request for information and provide prompt guidance.
• Develop and review Emory University Ethiopia safety and security policy, procedure and
practices, and advise on the improvement of existing safety and security policy
• Maintains and updates the weekly safety and security report, assessment log.
• Works on continuous improvement of safety and security policy, procedure and practices
• Attentively monitors new and revised health, safety and security protocols
• Responsible to deliver and co-ordinate health and safety related trainings and awareness
creation sessions
• Vigilantly scrutinize health and safety risks and recommend/implement applicable measures.
• Conduct frequent supportive supervision visits on each regional project offices Facilitates
onsite briefings for international visitors.
• Attends regular meetings with Emory’s Global Safety and Security unit.
Working Conditions and Level of Travel Required
Level of Travel: Travel to the regional offices and field sites as required
Terms of Employment: Short contract basis, renewable every three months depending available fund,
working days: - two or three days in a week
Salary: Based on organization salary scale.
• Bachelor’s Degree and five years of relevant safety, security, and/or risk management experience, OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and work experience
• Registered as security officer, graduated from Police College.
• Outstanding surveillance and observation skills.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Ability to communicate in English (writing, speaking) is preferred
• Ability to exercise good judgment
• Strong reporting skills.
• Working knowledge of public safety, security operations, and procedures
• Ability to work in fast-paced environment with minimal supervision
• Must maintain an insurable driving record.
