Job Description
The Driver Mechanic/Logistic Officer is responsible for ensuring the efficient transportation and maintenance of vehicles, as well as supporting the overall logistics operations. This role combines driving responsibilities with mechanical expertise to ensure that all vehicles are in optimal condition. Additionally, the Logistic Officer component involves coordinating and managing logistical tasks to support the organization’s operational needs.
Driving and Transportation
Safely operate and drive vehicles to transport goods, equipment, and personnel to various destinations.
Drives DF vehicles as required for performance of assigned tasks.
Adhere to all traffic laws, regulations, and organizational policies.
Plan and follow the most efficient routes for timely deliveries and pickups.
Conduct daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections to ensure vehicles are in good working condition
Ensure that the vehicle (s) is used for official business only and to resist attempts by any party to use DF Ethiopia vehicle(s) for personal or unofficial use.
Prevent the carrying of any dubious cargo which may bring the DF Ethiopia into conflict with relevant authorities e.g. the smuggling/transport of contraband items etc.
Vehicle Maintenance and Repairs
Perform routine maintenance on vehicles, including oil changes, tire rotations, brake inspections, and other mechanical tasks
Diagnose and repair mechanical issues in a timely and cost-effective manner.
Ensure all vehicles are clean, well-maintained, and equipped with necessary supplies and emergency kits
Gets office equipment service and maintained.
Ensure that official vehicle logbook, service and maintenance books are kept in good order at all times.
Assist in the planning and coordination of logistics operations, including inventory management, warehousing, and distribution
Monitor and manage stock levels, ensuring timely restocking of supplies
Manage any procurement activities including RFP’s (Request For Proposals)
Secures bids for specialized maintenance work such as body repairing, painting, and upholstering
Collate purchase orders and purchase requisitions in order-to-order materials, goods and supplies.
Coordinate with suppliers, vendors, and other stakeholders to ensure timely delivery of goods and services
Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all logistical activities
Ensure all necessary documentation, such as licenses, permits, and insurance, are up-to-date and compliant with regulations.
Support Admin assistant/cashier in various administrative tasks as needed
Processes visa and other travel related activities for staffs and guests.
Prepare and submit regular reports on vehicle usage, maintenance, and logistical activities.
Review inventories and order as required.
Assists in expediting issues with partners and Government offices
Follows up mail delivery status with the post office.
Undertake any other reasonable duties as may be assigned that are consistent with the nature of the job and its level of responsibility
Fully understand all the DF Ethiopia security practices, procedures and protocols
Ensure that before each journey the vehicle has the required security and safety equipment according to the list made and procedures to be followed
Follow all health and safety regulations and guidelines.
Ensure the safety of passengers and cargo at all times.
Report any accidents, incidents, or unsafe conditions immediately
Assist and replace other assistants within the organization, as required
Education: Diploma in auto mechanics and in purchasing and supply management.
Licenses/Certifications: 3rd grade driving license.
Training: Theoretical and practical training in auto mechanics or maintenance management is a plus.
Experience: 10 years of working experience in auto mechanics, logistics management, and procurement. Experience in an NGO working environment is a plus.
Analytical and critical thinking abilities.
Proficient in office software applications.
Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to diagnose and repair vehicle issues.
Excellent driving skills and knowledge of local roads and routes.
Proficient in logistics management, including inventory control and supply chain coordination.
Strong organizational and time management skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Good communication and interpersonal skills
