Legal Liaison Officer

Type of Employment: Full Time

Location: Addis Ababa

Reports to: Head of Corporate Services

Purpose of the Position

The Legal Liaison Officer will be responsible to represent the organization and ensure all relationships with external stakeholders are managed well and in a timely manner. 

The Legal Liaison Officer will be responsible for representing the organization and ensuring that all relationships with external stakeholders are managed effectively and in a timely manner. The officer will manage all processes such as renewals of permits, licenses, and certificates in close collaboration with relevant stakeholders. Additionally, the officer will ensure the organization is up to date on all legal requirements and understands the laws and regulations affecting its operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as the point of contact for all external stakeholders of the organization in relation to tax, customs, investment, document authentication, ministries etc.

  • Work with a sense of urgency to ensure that all tasks and responsibilities are handled promptly and efficiently.

  • Maintain a list of the government and non-government agencies or personnel representing stakeholders the organization has to liaise with on a regular basis;

  • Facilitate meetings and cooperation among influential stakeholders of the organization;

  • Identify problems in communications among these groups and proactively propose solutions for improved relationship

  • Prepare guidelines for the various process to ensure clear understanding across the organization

  • Conduct post-mortems when an incident occurs and is wrapped up.

  • Keep up with latest legislations that affect the organization's operations and provide summary to managers for clear understanding

  • Liaise with legal consultant to ensure all planned activities are completed in an efficient and timely manner

  • Create and maintain electronic and physical archives of all documents relevant to the organization

  • Store all documents and conversations in a structured manner digitally.

  • Manage the movement and access of company documents such as licenses, certificates permits etc;

  • Provide regular reports on activities conducted as well as planned

  • Support corporate team activities as instructed

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Law and other business fields such as Management, Business Administration or closely related fields

  • 0 - 3 year experience in a fast paced environment in a similar position

  • Experience and familiarity with internationally widely used project management tools such as Trello and Asana is a big plus

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills 

  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills;

  • Excellent organizational skills and efficiency;

  • Excellent ability to foster relationships and maintain them

  • Excellent sense of initiative, ability to set priorities and work under pressure with accuracy and dedication;

  • Good experience working with basic technology tools such as word, excel, email etc.
