Application Programming Interface (API) Engineer for Addis Ababa

• API Engineer is responsible for the design, development, implementation, maintenance and documentation of Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) in which data queries are made via internet and cloud platforms. In addition, the role holder is also responsible for bridging the gap between internal and external systems, ensuring smooth data exchange by collaborating with internal teams. 

Job Requirements

Academic & Professional Qualification

Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Computer Information System, Software Engineering or any other equivalent field                 

Professional ICT qualifications like JAVA, Web Logic, IBM, ESQL, NoSQL, UNIX, MCSE is an added advantage

Experience

Minimum of six (6) years relevant experience

Required Technical Competency

• Proficiency in programming languages used in API development (Java, Python, Node.js). 

• Experience with API design principles, API and best practices.

• Proven experience with cloud based platforms (AWS, Azure).

• Experience in RESTful and SOAP APIs.

• Strong understanding of API security best practices.

• Familiarity with API management tools like Postman, Swagger, or Apigee.

• Strong understanding of software development principles including Agile development methodologies. 

• Knowledge of database technologies like SQL and NoSQL.

• Experience with version control systems like Git.

• Understanding of microservices architecture.

• Experience with automated testing frameworks.

• Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines.

• Experience with containerization technologies like Docker.

• Familiarity with monitoring and logging tools.

• Familiarity working on the Linux command line

• Experience working in large, complex code bases and engineering software for scalability, high availability, and performance

• Experience building applications using Amazon Web Services and EC2

• Familiarity with WSDL and XML

• Excellent problem solving and analytical skills.

• Project management skills.
