Job Description
CareEpilepsy is dedicated to improving the lives of those affected by epilepsy through comprehensive care, support, and education. We are seeking a dynamic and compassionate Community Outreach Worker to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing counseling and mental health support, organizing and facilitating clinical training, running community awareness programs, managing youth volunteering initiatives, and performing various administrative tasks.
Counseling and Mental Health Support Clinic
Provide individual and group counseling sessions for people with epilepsy and their families.
Offer mental health support and crisis intervention as needed.
Develop and implement care plans tailored to individual needs.
Collaborate with healthcare professionals to ensure comprehensive care.
Patient Related Activities
Provide information for patients and the community to empower them to take the lead role for
their own clinical care;
listen to patients' concerns (individually and communally), suggestions and experiences so that
you can find solutions by raising these with people who design and manage services;
You will attend the patient support group meeting which will be held on the last Sunday of each
month.
Organizing and Running Clinical Training, Community Awareness Programs and Events
Organize and lead clinical training and community awareness.
Develop training materials and resources to enhance clinical knowledge and skills.
Coordinate events such as national epilepsy week, workshops, seminars, and public speaking
engagements.
Youth Volunteering Program
Recruit, train, and supervise youth volunteers.
Coordinate volunteer activities and recognize their contributions.
Administrative Work
Maintain accurate records of all outreach activities and client interactions.
Prepare reports and documentation as required.
Communication with Partners and Stakeholders
Establish and maintain relationships with community partners, stakeholders, and local
organizations.
Represent CareEpilepsy at community meetings and events.
Publicizing CareEpilepsy Ethiopia’s project through flyers, posters, with local groups and
organizations.
Other Responsibilities
Suggest and implement new initiatives to enhance community outreach and support services.
Stay informed about the latest developments in epilepsy care and community health.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Outreach Coordinator/Manager.
Any other duties are required by the line manager in line with the grade of the post.
Area: Communities in Addis Ababa (could require travelling to regions)

SALARY: Based on experience
WORKING HOURS, PATTERNS AND ENVIRONMENT
This is a Full-time role for 40 hours a week.
You’ll usually work 2:30am to 11:30pm (Ethiopian time), Monday-Friday. You may sometimes need to work outside of these hours when the workload is heavy;
You will attend the patient support group meeting which will be held on the last Sunday of each month (Ethiopian calendar) from 3:00am – 6:00pm (Ethiopian time).
You’ll be based in CareEpilepsy Ethiopia’s office but work in the community sites and region when necessary.
PERSON SPECIFICATION – Knowledge, skills and attributes.
Degree holder (Psychiatry Nurse/Health Officer);
Experience: Minimum of 2 years in community outreach, counseling, or a similar role.
Language and Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills in English; ability to convey complex information clearly and concisely.
Interpersonal Skills: Empathetic, compassionate, and able to build rapport with diverse groups.
Organizational Skills: Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize effectively, and meet deadlines
Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and email and can type in Amharic and English.
Teamwork: Ability to work collaboratively within a team and with external partners.
Flexibility: Willingness to work evenings and weekends as required.
