Job Description
Lay Volunteers International Association (LVIA) NGO is an Italian association that deals with institutional solidarity and cooperation committed to fostering ways of local and global change to overcome extreme poverty, reinforce equitable and sustainable development, and enhance dialogue.
Project Description:
The 2 experts in Agriculture and pastoralism will be responsible one for the implementation of a multi-sectorial intervention to improve health, nutrition, and livelihood conditions, in the Chifra Woreda of the Afar Region, and one in a emergency initiative in the woredas of Euwa and Yallo (Zone 4) in Afar Region, both funded by Italian Agency for Development Cooperation. They will organize and oversee the overall internal regular planning, follow-up, and implementation of the planned activities related to the agriculture and pastoralism activities that contribute to the food security and nutrition and livelihood improvement for the local communities.
Main Duties:
Support the preparation of trainings for agro-pastoralists and AGR groups, with main focus to strengthening the resilience of local agro pastorals communities to enhance household livelihoods for greater security, food security and nutrition diversification, oriented mainly for self-consumption, with a particular attention to promote protection and sustainable use of water resources and grazing lands.
Organize and support the purchase and distribution of agri kit, drought-resistant seeds and tools and veterinary First Aid Kits for CASHWs
Organize distribution of livestock treatment vouchers
Work closely with the water engineer for the rehabilitation of lands with solar irrigation and for the rehabilitation of pasturelands
Organize school gardens and support the training and demonstration for students
Supporting vulnerable population groups in the development of nutrition and climate-smart income-generating activities
Organize monitoring visits with the support of LVIA field officers and community facilitators to verify the impact of the ToT system in disseminating knowledge between the AGR groups.
Monitor the agriculture, Livestock and livelihood condition of the community and factors that could affect their production.
Forecast the economic situation related to agriculture, livestock and livelihood of the community using data
Support LVIA and partner staff in the field by facilitating the exchange of information and results among the working group.
Collaborate with local authorities connected with agriculture and pastoralism.
Prepare periodical report, technical assessment and coordinate the data collection for the monitoring of the implemented activities
Perform additional position-related tasks assigned by the Project Manager/Area Coordinator or Field Coordinator.

Availability: as soon as possible
Type of employment: 1 year contract with the possibility of extension.
Salary: Negotiable: (Hardship allowance + transport allowance + Profit fund (PF)+pension fund and medical insurance + plus other organization benefits will be included).
Qualification and experience:
Good understanding of NGO set up in development and emergency projects
Bachelor or higher Degree in Agricultural Sciences majoring in crops or veterinary science or Agricultural extension and other related fields with FSL subjects
Minimum of five-years of working experience with in agro-pastoral system and at least three years in NGO project management
Excellent communication, organization and prioritization skills and the ability to multi-task and support and/or fill multiple positions at one time
Demonstrated attention to detail and ability to follow procedures, meet deadlines and work both independently and cooperatively with team members
Good experience of working culture of the project site or other similar areas of Afar regional state
Demonstrate capacity to interact and cooperate with a wide range of public and private sector representatives including local communities, partners, authorities and different project stakeholders
Good computer literate especially in Microsoft office (Word, Excel, power point), data collection using Kobo,
Highly organized, efficient, and able to meet key deadlines
Excellent oral and written communication skills including fluency in English; with competency in field data collection, monitoring, analysis and reporting
Highly developed inter-personal skills/inter-cultural sensitivity;
Competence in IT;
Ability to work under pressure in harsh environment;
Languages: English and Afar (Qafaraf) fluently spoken and written.
