POSITION SUMMARY
The Chief Supply Chain Officer (CSCO) at East Africa National Distribution Share Company (END S.C.) is responsible for overseeing the entire supply chain operations, including procurement, logistics, inventory management, and distribution. The CSCO will align the supply chain strategy with the company’s objectives of growing gross sales, creating production capacity, developing an appropriate industry culture, ensuring institutional ownership, and implementing sustainable development levers. This role is pivotal in ensuring the efficient distribution and trade of cement, construction materials, and related products while optimizing costs and enhancing customer satisfaction.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Supply Chain Strategy and Leadership:
Develop and execute a comprehensive supply chain strategy aligned with the company’s business objectives, focusing on the distribution of cement, construction materials, and related products.
Lead and manage the entire supply chain, ensuring operational efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and alignment with strategic pillars.
Collaborate with other C-level executives to support the company’s growth in wholesale and retail trade, investments in the cement industry, and infrastructure sector.
2. Procurement and Supplier Management:
Oversee procurement activities to secure high-quality materials and services at competitive prices for the company’s diverse operations.
Establish and maintain strong relationships with key suppliers, ensuring reliable supply chains for cement, construction materials, fuels, and other products.
Implement procurement strategies that support sustainable development goals and reduce supply chain risks.
3. Logistics and Distribution:
Manage logistics operations to ensure the timely and cost-effective delivery of products to customers, including cement, construction materials, and fuel.
Optimize transportation routes, warehousing strategies, and distribution networks to enhance operational efficiency and reduce costs.
Lead the implementation of logistics solutions that support the company’s retail and wholesale trade operations.
4. Inventory and Demand Planning:
Oversee inventory management to maintain optimal stock levels, ensuring availability of products while minimizing excess inventory.
Implement advanced demand planning techniques to accurately forecast customer needs and align inventory levels accordingly.
Monitor inventory metrics to improve turnover rates and reduce waste, supporting the company’s sustainable development objectives.
5. Supply Chain Risk Management:
Develop and implement risk management strategies to mitigate potential disruptions in the supply chain.
Ensure supply chain continuity through effective contingency planning and diversification of suppliers and logistics partners.
Monitor global market trends and other factors that could impact the supply chain, adjusting strategies as needed.
6. Technology and Innovation:
Leverage technology to enhance supply chain visibility, improve decision-making, and drive operational efficiency.
Stay informed about emerging trends and technologies in supply chain management, implementing relevant innovations.
Promote the use of digital tools to streamline supply chain processes and improve collaboration across the organization.
7. Budgeting and Financial Management:
Develop and manage the supply chain budget, ensuring alignment with the company’s financial objectives.
Monitor and control supply chain expenses, identifying opportunities for cost reduction without compromising quality.
Provide regular reports to the CEO on supply chain performance, including financial metrics, operational efficiency, and strategic initiatives.
8. Talent Management and Development:
Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing supply chain team, fostering a culture of innovation, excellence, and accountability.
Implement talent development programs to build a strong pipeline of future leaders within the supply chain function.
Ensure the supply chain organization is aligned with the company’s institutional ownership and industry culture goals.
9. Sustainability and Social Responsibility:
Integrate sustainable practices into supply chain operations, aligning with the company’s commitment to sustainable development.
Lead initiatives to reduce the environmental impact of supply chain activities, including emissions from transportation and waste from excess inventory.
Engage with stakeholders to ensure the supply chain contributes to broader societal and environmental goals.
Job Requirements
PERSONS SPECIFICATIONS
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration, or a related field.
Master’s degree in Business Administration (MBA) or a related field is preferred.
Professional certification in supply chain management is an advantage.
Experience:
A minimum of 10 years of experience in supply chain management, logistics, or a related field.
Proven experience in a senior leadership role within a large-scale supply chain or logistics operation.
Experience in developing and implementing supply chain strategies that drive business growth and operational efficiency.
Strong background in procurement, logistics, inventory management, and supplier relationship management.
Experience in managing supply chain operations in the cement and construction materials industry is highly preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, Competence:
Deep understanding of supply chain management principles, including procurement, logistics, inventory management, and distribution.
Knowledge of the cement and construction materials industry, including market trends, challenges, and opportunities.
Familiarity with supply chain risk management and sustainable supply chain practices.
Excellent leadership and people management skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate teams.
Strong strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities.
Outstanding communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to build relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
Proficiency in supply chain management software, ERP systems, and data analytics tools.
Ability to develop and execute a strategic vision for the supply chain function, aligning it with the company’s broader business goals.
Financial insight with experience in budgeting, cost management, and financial analysis.
Ability to adapt to a rapidly changing business environment and make decisions under pressure.
