POSITION SUMMARY 

The Financial Planning and Controlling Manager at East Africa National Distribution Share Company (END S.C.) is responsible for overseeing the company’s financial planning, budgeting, and controlling functions. This role ensures that the company’s financial resources are effectively managed, aligned with strategic objectives, and supports the business's sustainable growth. The Financial Planning and Controlling Manager will work closely with the CFO and senior management to provide financial insights, control costs, and optimize the allocation of resources, ensuring the financial viability of the company’s operations in the distribution and construction materials sector.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Financial Planning and Budgeting:

  • Lead the development and implementation of the company’s annual budget, ensuring alignment with corporate goals and strategic pillars.

  • Coordinate with various departments to prepare detailed financial forecasts, revenue projections, and expense budgets.

  • Monitor budget performance throughout the fiscal year, identifying variances and recommending corrective actions.

2. Financial Controlling:

  • Establish and maintain financial controls to monitor and regulate company expenditures, ensuring adherence to the approved budget.

  • Analyze financial data to identify trends, variances, and areas of improvement, and provide recommendations to management.

  • Ensure that cost controls are in place, and manage the cost allocation process across departments and projects.

3. Financial Reporting and Analysis:

  • Prepare and present regular financial reports, including variance analysis, financial performance summaries, and cost reports, to senior management.

  • Conduct financial analysis to support strategic decision-making, including profitability analysis, cost-benefit analysis, and investment evaluations.

  • Develop financial models to simulate different business scenarios and their financial impact.

4. Strategic Financial Management:

  • Support the CFO in the development of long-term financial strategies, aligning financial planning with the company’s growth and sustainability goals.

  • Participate in the evaluation of new business opportunities, investments, and expansion projects, providing financial insights and risk assessments.

  • Ensure that financial planning and controlling practices align with the company’s strategic pillars, such as growing gross sales and enhancing production capacity.

5. Compliance and Risk Management:

  • Ensure compliance with financial regulations, internal policies, and industry standards related to financial planning and controlling.

  • Identify financial risks and implement strategies to mitigate them, including monitoring market conditions, exchange rates, and interest rates.

  • Coordinate with internal and external auditors to ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial reporting and control systems.

6. Team Leadership and Development:

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of financial analysts, budgeting officers, and cost controllers to ensure high performance.

  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement within the financial planning and controlling team, encouraging innovation and best practices.

  • Ensure that the team is equipped with the necessary tools, skills, and resources to perform their duties effectively.

 Job Requirements

4A. Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Economics, or a related field.

  • Master’s degree in Finance, Business Administration (MBA), or a related discipline is preferred.

  • Professional certifications are highly desirable.

4B. Experience:

  • A minimum of 7 years of experience in financial planning, budgeting, and controlling, with at least 3 years in a managerial role.

  • Experience in the manufacturing, distribution, or construction materials industry is preferred.

  • Proven track record of managing complex financial planning and controlling functions in a large organization.

Knowledge, Skills, Competence:

  • In-depth knowledge of financial planning, budgeting, and controlling principles, including cost accounting, financial analysis, and financial modeling.

  • Strong understanding of industry-specific financial challenges, particularly in the distribution and construction materials sectors.

  • Proficiency in financial software, ERP systems, and advanced financial modeling tools.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to develop actionable insights from complex financial data.

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, capable of explaining financial concepts to both financial and non-financial stakeholders.

  • Effective leadership and team management skills, with a focus on coaching and developing finance staff.

  • Strategic thinker with the ability to align financial planning and controlling practices with the company’s business objectives.

  • High level of integrity, ethics, and commitment to financial transparency and accountability.

  • Ability to work under pressure, manage multiple priorities, and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
