Job Description

The Chief Finance Officer (CFO) at East Africa National Distribution Share Company (END S.C.) is responsible for leading the financial strategy and operations of the company. The CFO will oversee financial planning, budgeting, reporting, and risk management to ensure the financial health and sustainability of the company. This role involves providing strategic financial insights to support decision-making, managing financial risks, and ensuring compliance with financial regulations. The CFO will play a key role in driving the company’s growth by aligning financial goals with the company's strategic pillars, such as growing gross sales, creating production capacity, and implementing sustainable development initiatives.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Financial Strategy and Planning:

  • Develop and implement the company’s financial strategy in alignment with its business goals and objectives.

  • Lead the budgeting process, ensuring that financial resources are allocated effectively to support the company’s strategic initiatives.

  • Provide financial insights and forecasts to the CEO and executive team to guide decision-making and business planning.

2. Financial Reporting and Analysis:

  • Oversee the preparation of accurate and timely financial statements, reports, and analysis for internal and external stakeholders.

  • Monitor financial performance against budgets and forecasts, identifying areas for improvement and recommending corrective actions.

  • Ensure that financial reporting complies with all regulatory requirements, accounting standards, and best practices.

3. Risk Management and Compliance:

  • Identify and manage financial risks, including market, credit, liquidity, and operational risks, to protect the company’s assets and ensure financial stability.

  • Implement and maintain internal controls to safeguard the company’s financial integrity and prevent fraud.

  • Ensure compliance with all relevant financial regulations, tax laws, and corporate governance requirements.

4. Cash Flow and Treasury Management:

  • Oversee cash flow management, ensuring that the company has adequate liquidity to meet its operational and strategic needs.

  • Manage the company’s treasury functions, including investments, banking relationships, and debt management.

  • Develop and implement strategies to optimize working capital and improve cash flow efficiency.

5. Leadership and Team Management:

  • Lead and mentor the finance team, fostering a culture of excellence, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

  • Conduct regular performance evaluations for finance staff, providing feedback and setting goals for professional development.

  • Ensure that the finance team is adequately resourced and equipped with the necessary tools and skills to perform their duties effectively.

6. Stakeholder Relations:

  • Act as the primary liaison between the company and external financial stakeholders, including banks, investors, auditors, and regulatory authorities.

  • Represent the company in financial discussions and negotiations with partners, suppliers, and other third parties.

  • Communicate financial performance and strategy to the board of directors, shareholders, and other key stakeholders.

7. Strategic Initiatives and Business Growth:

  • Support the company’s growth objectives by evaluating and financing new business opportunities, investments, and expansion projects.

  • Work closely with other departments to align financial planning with the company’s strategic goals, such as expanding distribution networks, enhancing production capacity, and developing new revenue streams.

  • Lead initiatives to implement sustainable financial practices and drive long-term value creation.

Job Requirements

A. Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field.

  • Master’s degree in Finance, Business Administration (MBA), or a related discipline is preferred.

  • Professional certifications such as IFRS, Peachtree are highly desirable.

B. Experience:

  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in finance, with at least 5 years in a senior finance leadership role, preferably as a CFO or equivalent.

  • Proven experience in strategic financial planning, risk management, and corporate finance within the manufacturing, distribution, or construction materials industry.

  • Strong track record of managing financial operations, leading finance teams, and driving business growth through financial strategies.

Knowledge, Skills, Competence:

  • In-depth knowledge of financial management principles, practices, and regulations, including accounting standards (IFRS/GAAP), tax laws, and corporate finance.

  • Strong understanding of the cement, construction materials, and related industries, including market dynamics, supply chains, and financial challenges.

  • Familiarity with financial software, ERP systems, and financial modeling tools.

  • Excellent financial analysis and forecasting skills, with the ability to interpret complex financial data and provide actionable insights.

  • Strong negotiation and contract management skills, particularly in financing, investments, and stakeholder relations.

  • Effective communication and presentation skills, with the ability to articulate financial strategies to non-financial stakeholders.

  • Strategic thinking with the ability to align financial goals with the company’s overall business objectives.

  • Strong leadership and people management skills, with the ability to inspire and develop a high-performing finance team.

  • High level of integrity, ethics, and commitment to financial transparency and accountability.
