Job Description

SERVICES/SCOPE OF WORK: The Intern shall use all reasonable efforts to perform the following services in accordance with the terms and conditions set forth in this agreement: 

  • Purpose and Objectives of the Internship: The Gender Internship aims to provide a comprehensive learning experience for recent graduates in health, public health. The intern will:

    Gain hands-on experience in gender integration within Health Information Systems (HIS) and Digital Health (DH).

    Develop a deeper understanding of gender-related challenges and initiatives in the health sector.

    Enhance employability through practical exposure and professional networking.

    Contribute to the Women Data Champions initiative and gender integration efforts at DUP and MOH.

Responsibilities:

Assist in integrating gender considerations into HIS/DH at MOH and DUP and Facilitate Gender-related Activities

Collaborate with Project Staff and Youth Intern and provide support on the key concepts of gender.

Support the Women Data Champion Initiative of DUP in facilitating trainings, mentorships, and project assignments

Prepare gender related updates for the internal MERL bi-weekly meeting and gender-related knowledge management.

Track requests for proposals, partner projects, and external events focused on gender and development.

Coordinate with the subgrantee gender firm in arranging and facilitating meetings to support gender integration in HIS/DH.

Participate in events and presentations related to gender in HIS/DH and share insights with DUP staff.

  • Working Relationship

    The intern will work closely with the supervisor and project staff.

    Regular check-ins and feedback sessions will be conducted to ensure alignment and progress.

    The intern will be encouraged to participate actively in team meetings and discussions.

    DELIVERABLES: The Intern is responsible for the timely submission of the following deliverables: (If applicable)

  • Deliverable

    1 Bi-weekly gender updates for MERL meetings# Biweekly Meetings 

    2 Coordination of trainings and mentorship sessions# Trainings and mentorship sessions 

    3 Meeting facilitation with the subgrantee gender firm# Meetings 

    4 Reports on external learning events and presentations# Reports and meetings attended 

Job Requirements

Experiences and Skills/Qualifications:

  • Number of internship position --- One

  • Fresh Bachelor degree graduate in Health Systems, Health Policy, Public Health or related disciplines with minimum GPA of 3.50 is required. 

  • Zero years of relevant professional experience. 

  • Internship for young female professional only

  • Strong interest in gender issues, Health Information System (HIS).

  • Ability to work under pressure, long work hours, and high workload.

  • Self-motivated, honest, highly responsible, and punctual.

  • Proven organizational and interpersonal communication skills.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Ability to manage a wide range of activities on a daily basis.

  • Ability to work effectively and harmoniously with people representing a wide range of personal and organizational cultures.

  • English fluency is required and ability to speak and write Amharic is required. 

  • Duration of engagement 9 (nine) months
