Job Description

Job Overview

The Adolescent Girls Programming Officer supports a project designed to equip adolescent girls in the Sherkole refugee camp with the skills and experiences vital to making balanced, strategic life choices as well as promoting the safety, prevention of, and response to violence against adolescent girls.

Detailed Responsibilities and Tasks:

  • Participate in assessments and give overall intervention strategy based on feedback received from girls throughout the AG programming.

  • Strictly enforce GBV guiding principle while engaging with AG and their parents/caregivers.

  • Supervise and capacitate local community and refugee mentors formally and informally to provide quality life skill sessions through training, daily mentoring, weekly meetings, and applying regular knowledge and skills assessment tools.

  • In collaboration with implementing partners and community leaders, develop a selection criterion for adolescent girls to engage them in life skill curriculum sessions.

  • Support in contextualization and adaptation of Girl Shine Curriculum into refugee and local community context.

  • Conduct Adolescent Girls Programming-related capacity-building training for mentors, community leaders, implementing partners, and parents/caregivers.

  • Directly engage with adolescent girls and parents as required, and work with mentors to ensure the quality of the program.

  • Coordinate with Response Officers when there is a need to provide case management services for adolescent girls.

  • Assist in response related IEC and BCC materials, in collaboration with the GBV team, ensuring messages are appropriate for the community and conduct pre-testing before dissemination.

  • Supervise supply and logistical needs of AG safe space and adhere to all relevant IRC logistic policies.

  • Build a relationship with all relevant GBV program partners, community leaders, and parents/caregivers in the camp and local community to encourage greater communication, collaboration, and coordination.

  • Work closely with different actors particularly with schools, Women's associations, health, and legal actors to ensure coordination among partners and

  • Participate in monitoring and evaluation activities including assessments and surveys.

  • Any other duties and responsibilities that can be given by immediate and technical supervisors.

Key Working Relationships:

  • The position holder will directly report to the Camp Manager with technical oversight from the WPE manager based in Assosa.

Safeguarding Responsibilities:-

  • Promote and actively participate in initiatives and efforts to build team engagement, inclusion, and cohesion in IRC [team/office]

  • Foster ongoing learning, honest dialogue, and reflection to strengthen safeguarding and promote IRC values and adherence to IRC policies.

Job Requirements

Educational Background:

  • BA/MA degree in Psychology, Social work, and other related fields.

Required Skills and Qualification:

  • 2 years of relevant experience with the first degree or 1 year of relevant experience plus post-graduate

  • Basic supervisory/managerial skills.

  • NGO experience is a plus.

  • Technical and report writing skills

  • Computer literate.

  • A clear understanding of gender, power abuse, and issues surrounding violence against women.

  • Able to always maintain GBV and protection principles.

  • Experience in participatory techniques and community mobilization includes facilitating the training.

  • Ability to lead, train, supervise, facilitate, and motivate other WPE field workers in their respective tasks in a professional, respectful, and supportive manner.

  • Positive and professional attitude, able to organize, maintain composure, prioritize work under pressure, work overtime when needed, and able to coordinate multiple tasks, and maintain attention to detail.

  • Related work and field experiences in social service provision with women and girls.

  • Ability to use MS Office, Excel, Email, and PowerPoint applications very well.

  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.

Language Skills:

  • Fluent in spoken and written English.

  • Knowledge of the local language and Rutana and Arabic is advantageous.
