Job Description

The Warehouse Manager at East Africa National Distribution Share Company (END S.C.) is responsible for overseeing all aspects of warehouse operations, including receiving, storage, inventory management, and dispatching of goods. This role ensures that the warehouse operates efficiently, maintaining high levels of accuracy in inventory control, and ensuring that products such as cement, construction materials, and other related goods are stored and distributed in a timely and cost-effective manner. The Warehouse Manager will work closely with the Logistics Manager to align warehouse operations with the company’s strategic objectives.

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Warehouse Operations Management:

  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the warehouse, ensuring efficient handling, storage, and dispatching of products.

  • Develop and implement standard operating procedures (SOPs) for warehouse activities, including receiving, storage, inventory control, and order fulfillment.

  • Ensure the warehouse operates at optimal efficiency, with a focus on reducing costs, improving productivity, and minimizing errors.

2. Inventory Management:

  • Manage inventory levels to ensure adequate stock is available to meet demand while minimizing excess inventory.

  • Implement inventory management practices to maintain high accuracy in stock counts and minimize stock discrepancies.

  • Conduct regular inventory audits and cycle counts to verify inventory accuracy and resolve any discrepancies.

3. Warehouse Layout and Space Utilization:

  • Design and maintain an efficient warehouse layout that optimizes space utilization and facilitates smooth operations.

  • Monitor warehouse capacity and plan for expansion or reorganization as needed to accommodate business growth.

  • Ensure that products are stored in a manner that maximizes accessibility, safety, and efficiency.

4. Safety and Compliance:

  • Ensure compliance with all safety regulations and standards, creating a safe working environment for all warehouse staff.

  • Implement and enforce safety protocols, including the proper handling and storage of hazardous materials.

  • Conduct regular safety training sessions for warehouse staff and ensure all safety equipment is properly maintained.

5. Team Leadership and Development:

  • Lead, train, and develop the warehouse team, fostering a culture of accountability, efficiency, and continuous improvement.

  • Conduct regular performance evaluations for warehouse staff, providing feedback and setting goals for development.

  • Manage staffing levels to ensure adequate coverage for all warehouse operations, including peak periods.

6. Technology and Process Improvement:

  • Implement warehouse management systems (WMS) to streamline operations and improve inventory accuracy and visibility.

  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance warehouse efficiency, reduce costs, and improve service levels.

  • Stay informed about industry trends and emerging technologies, applying relevant innovations to warehouse operations.

7. Coordination and Communication:

  • Collaborate with the Logistics Manager, procurement teams, and other departments to ensure seamless coordination of warehouse activities with overall supply chain operations.

  • Communicate effectively with other departments to resolve issues related to inventory, order fulfillment, and logistics.

  • Provide regular reports to the Logistics Manager on warehouse performance, including key metrics and areas for improvement.

Job Requirements

A Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration, or a related field.

  • Professional certification in warehouse management or logistics is an advantage.

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in warehouse management, with a focus on inventory control, distribution, and logistics.

  • Proven experience in managing large-scale warehouse operations, preferably in the cement, construction materials, or related industries.

  • Experience with warehouse management systems (WMS) and inventory control software.

B. Experience:

Knowledge, Skills, Competence:

  • Deep understanding of warehouse management principles, including inventory control, space utilization, and order fulfillment.

  • Knowledge of safety regulations and best practices for warehouse operations, including the handling and storage of hazardous materials.

  • Familiarity with the cement and construction materials industry, including logistics and distribution challenges.

  • Strong leadership and people management skills, with the ability to motivate and develop a high-performing team.

  • Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities in a fast-paced environment.

  • Proficiency in warehouse management systems (WMS), inventory control software, and data analysis tools.

  • Ability to develop and execute warehouse strategies that align with the company’s broader business goals.

  • Strong analytical and decision-making abilities, with a focus on continuous improvement and operational excellence.

  • Financial insight with experience in budgeting, cost management, and financial analysis.

  • Commitment to safety, compliance, and sustainability in warehouse operations.
